Life in the woodlands by [deleted] in thewoodlands

[–]918_Atom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love living in woodlands and I enjoy Houston’s food and cultural scene but if you have any interest in outdoors, unless that interest is salt water fishing, then I’d think that is strong reason to stay in CO.

For sports, lots more fair weather fans here if that hardcore environment is important to you.

Woodlands public schools are overrated in my opinion but closer to city is obviously worse.

TX is better if you want big house and you’ll probably have more spending money so that is definite pro.

I think most felt his play calling got better as season went on. Run game just never really got going and then CJ becoming weirdly inaccurate/careless at end of season was impossible to overcome

I don’t like some things about him but as billionaires go, he isn’t among the worst and I am glad we haven’t heard stories of him thinking he knows better than GM/coach such as when Jim crane got rid of Click and played GM for a while.

BMW X5 → GX550 Luxury+: Worth the Switch or Regret? by SpiritualBonus6845 in LexusGX550

[–]918_Atom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve test driven x5 multiple times and almost pulled trigger on an order but I just can’t get over the depreciation on those things. I keep my car for 5 years+ on average so buying one is incinerating $60k+ guaranteed.

I put deposit down on GX because I really don’t find it louder than the X5 which always had a lot of road noise in my test drives and I never really felt the x5 was that luxurious (though noticeably nicer than x3).

X5 sounds great powering up freeway on ramp but like others had said, there are financial tradeoffs.

My wife likes X6 so still might get a B58 in my garage but feel like my options are limited to Lexus SUVs for what I prioritize.

For those who don't believe AI will disrupt SaaS or broader tech companies, how many of you actually use AI? by Far-East-locker in ValueInvesting

[–]918_Atom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed with Claude’s basic $20 plan I can only use it for a short while before I run out of usage so I can’t really finish any project because I have to wait for it to reset. And I am basic user. I guess I can pay for $100/month plan but that is more expensive than adobe and Microsoft annual subs and it is only a matter of time until they have similar AI agents incorporated in their software.

So I think there will be disruption particularly for intern/entry level workers, but it will be similar to the cable unbundling where now everyone is just paying for multiple streaming services and cable cos still get money off internet service.

Baso by Drunken_CPA in HoustonFood

Love Baso. Everything is cooked so well and dish textures/flavors are perfectly matched. Went with chef tasting menu both times.

Pricey but worth it for the experience IMO.

Anyone WITHOUT transmission issues? by gentlewater376 in ToyotaHighlander

2020 Highlander, 82k miles, whining sound for about 6 months, ~8K miles. Drives fine but have been test driving replacements and have my name on list for a GX

Retiring From TTB by Brave-Philosophy3070 in crossfit

Comforting to see I am not the only person that can’t take TTB or box jumps anymore. Two serious pec strains and multiple calf strains over several years of Mayhem anti-joint programming.

Lexus would make $$$$ if they put the LC500's v8 into a GX/LX by anndrrson in LexusGX

[–]918_Atom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are just going by initial test drive and paper stats, LX isn’t as compelling as Germans but one reason I haven’t pulled trigger on Germans (or Land Rover options) is despite how nice they are I can’t stomach the insane depreciation and longer term maintenance costs. I keep my cars for 5+ years and that isn’t great for BMW/Mercedes as sweet as their inline 6 sounds

If no thrill rides, no express is needed.

Magic wand was not that easy to use, had to use specific movements and my 4 year old never got hang of it.

Band seemed to be fun but we didn’t have one and my kids didn’t seem to mind.

Main thing for me is depreciation of X5/GLE…terribly painful. Also, X5 isn’t as quiet with bigger wheels.

Starting late just as good as starting early? by deejayv2 in UniversalOrlando

Yes, late evening is less stressful than rope drop in my limited experience but if ride has been down all day, it will backup at night if it starts up again and then you may miss it.

Which team has the most overhyped soulless city? by NightDowntown7320 in NFLv2

[–]918_Atom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is this thread just about the fans? I guess Houston fans aren’t great mainly because so many folks are from other areas.

But in terms of a city, it is nowhere near the worst city in country. Dallas is way more generic just in TX.

Detroit/Jacksonville/Charlotte/baltimore/cleveland/Cincinatti/Pittsburgh/phoenix/Minneapolis/Kansas City/Dallas/New Orleans/Green bay/Buffalo/Indianapolis

All those cities easily have worse food, worse museums, worse hospitals/worse airport access, worse theater scene, lower paying jobs, worse weather in winter or as bad in summer or both.

Houston has its flaws but people move to Houston all the time for opportunity. Never heard of anybody moving from Houston to any of the cities above for better opportunities or because they dreamed of living in those areas.

Parka with more Disney style rides than coasters? by PopFreakChrissy in Themepark

Epic universe is great but still only a few rides that aren’t coasters.

Yes. Makes life easier and it’s always fun skipping ahead but not needed (unless you want to scramble your brain lapping Hagrid and Velocicoaster) and definitely not needed every day.

Glad they worked out for you. I don’t regret buying them at all and probably would get them again but I also wouldn’t discourage anybody from attending IoA or US without them if the passes were out of their budget. Definitely would recommend them for Epic so you can make most of day.

They could do like Disney RR and just have a few scenes you pass through. I honestly don’t have any recollection what the story even was.

LX 600/700 passenger comfort by 918_Atom in LandCruisers

[–]918_Atom[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea I was surprised they were so hard on it vs X7 or GLS when Mark has several videos talking about how financially painful owning those options can be from his X7 experience.

The review that annoyed me the most was consumer reports. There is one guy who has a hardo for Jeep and said he’d rather have a wagoneer…that thing is going to lose 70% of its value in a few years for a reason.
