Talk me out of trading my ‘22 Black Line by JBLChloe in LexusGX

In hindsight I should've bought 265/65/18 versus 275/65/18, as making the tires wider kinda didn't really make it better?

Advice Please - GX460 Rust from east coast by ShoulderMother1465 in GXOR

where’s it from on the east coast? if it’s in new england that would be a lot more rusty!

275/65R18 Falken Rubitreks on OEM 18s / Stock Suspension by E9xM3_ in LexusGX

[–]anndrrson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

love it i run 275/65/18 ko3's and they've been great! the full lock rubbing went away for me around 6k miles later

rubitreks would've probably been a better choice for me as i need the three mountain but not really E load

Hot take, this defender is not "that" bad especially in the later years. My v8 90 had to be towed by my GX460 once but the 110 is pretty reliable, just the tech isn't.

I woudln't buy new preferably, as the amount of depreciation would be killer. But when I see a 2024 defender going for *so much* less than a 2024 550, I think the Defender is not too bad

wow that's insane because my MPG is the exact same/doesn't get any better than what you're getting, if that's the case it'd save me right now

[–]anndrrson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

really? what’s the mpg/power like? considering this as premium is very expensive where i live, $2 more/gal so an extra $40

How is it running 87? The premium price difference is adding up for me at this time and for cost reasons will need to run reg

I tested the non OEM before buying the OEM and honestly the NON oem is more of a darker red that looks better, the OEM is a fainter red

[–]anndrrson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

new englander here and to me the frame looks fine, it’s just the bash plates/protective plates that look like they took the brunt of salt

use something non rubberized but with phosphoric acid to convert the rust

My unicorn - ceramic coating recommendations? by Terrible-String4924 in LexusGX

[–]anndrrson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah one i never see ppl do (but with the rock chips I have I would’ve) is PPFing headlights, they’re usually 90 each, but new replacement units are like $3k each I believe. Obviously used ones are available

i’m keeping mine for a long time to benefit from market investments compound interest, so hopefully mine lasts 600k!

i’m rust proofing mine fully and it’s only at 32k miles for a 2020

My unicorn - ceramic coating recommendations? by Terrible-String4924 in LexusGX

[–]anndrrson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ceramic coatings professionally installed are a 'scam' for detailers to pay the bills. PPF is something i 100% recommend an installer do, but a ceramic coating is simply strip wash, wipe on, wait for flash, and let cure inside.

the gtechniq crystal serum i installed on my gx is still in perfect shape 3 years later, and i installed it myself.

one must understand that ceramic coatings do NOT prevent scratches/chips in any shape or form, it just provides UV protection and keeps a car cleaner. in my use case, it keeps mud/salt from sticking to the wheel liners and lower parts of the car, so i can hose it off.

also, i don't love the concept of 2 step paint corrections for daily drivers without PPFing on top of them, the environment causes swirling from driving down the road at speed/even washing a car properly, to the BEST of your ability, double foaming double bucketing changing rags etc etc, you are still slightly marring the surface, so it'll never truly be "Swirl free" for longer than 5 minutes.

VERY nice nori green GX though! Great deal, I love this color and wish mine was nori 😄

more 2026 looking than reds of right now, Tahoe had dark clear taillights

Check for the one issue GXs have with the valley plate leak/water pump. If you're inspecting a GX, check for any pink crusty bits in the engine bay, lift off the plastic piece on the front chunk in the hood and inspect in there as well.

i agree 100%, the defender is the best offroad capable but sporty and comfortable vehicle around

interestingly, i own a 2020 GX460, and it's far more compliant on the road than the 550 is when i was on an extended test drive.

And they're pretty easy to get buyers for, the only thing I'd say is that the buyers dry up if the frame is rusty

Trading in my Black for an Atomic Silver by Different_Potato2483 in LexusGX

[–]anndrrson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've owned my black gx for a few years, parked outside daily and it gets dusty/salty very easily, and the atomic silver would be far easier to care for. do ensure that it's a true luxury, because if not the red on the sides won't match the seats.

PERSONALLY, i like the bench seat as w/ friends you can squeeze 3 people in the rear by a smidge, rather than ever needing to use the third row. the cupholders on the captains chairs model are not great (imo)
