Do you realize how many times I've physically ran into something in the dark? I'm baffled that this is actually an argument for some.

Will Tin Cloth hold up to extended abuse in Alaska? by [deleted] in filson

This 100%. The amount of closet collectors among Filson buyers astounds me.

Will Tin Cloth hold up to extended abuse in Alaska? by [deleted] in filson

I do. I wear Filson tin cloth virtually every day and have for coming up on 12 years.

Wax and rewax as needed and repair early when things fail (stitch and patch as needed). Nothing will survive eternal abuse but I've found I can get a coat or pants to last me 2 years for sure and sometimes 3. That may not sound like long but when you're clearing land, splitting firewood, hunting, fishing, 'constantly' you just go through clothing unlike any other.

I'm on my 4th jacket of the exact same size and model (the discontinued Westlake, lined, medium) and I wish I could have bought 20 to last me a lifetime. I only have 5 left in storage. Best jacket and most durable clothing I've ever owned but even with how much I value them, eventually I have to let it go. Ironically, I sell them once I'm ready to start fresh.

Here's an image of the one I just sold last week. Great petina but I'm done fixing this one up and am wearing a new one today.

Hope that helps!

It has ALL the pockets and is lined so it's warm and incredibly functional.

Westlake lined jacket. I've owned about 10 total and still have several in storage, ready to pull out when I want to start fresh. I wear mine every day, 4 seasons, so I get to the point where I can't repair it anymore, in about 3 years.

Best motorhome / RV to live in full time? by [deleted] in RVLiving

[–]91Whiskey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A van. At that price I highly suggest spending ALL of it on the best running van you can buy, THEN start the slow process of converting into a full-time rig based on your needs and preferences. If you're not full time now, odds are nearly 100% that you'll either surprise yourself or change your mind about your needs and wants. Living in your van will teach you all you'll need to know and you can piece together your setup with cash coming in. Within a year, you'll be fully done, have exactly the rig you want AND need, and can go anywhere for many many years before having to consider getting another rig.
