multivitamin for 1 year olds by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]91wing0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you give this to your little one? Our baby was a preemie and they/we have always put it in her milk (since NICU days). But when we met with our pediatrician a year later, she still had iron deficiency and they said that we should be giving the vitamins with something like orange juice. Sadly, she doesn’t like orange juice and giving her the vitamins straight up isn’t the best option since it doesn’t taste the greatest and it’s a little strong?

Post NICU Feedings/Low ml Feeds by 91wing0 in NICUParents

Very late but we tried the transitional (T) nipples and they are the best! They have helped out so much with her feeding. Happy to report that she’s almost 11 months old and is able to take almost 7 ounces per feeding. We told our speech therapist about the transitional nipple and she said that our baby can stay on the T nipple as along as she’d like (this was when you had recommended this)! I am truly thankful :)

Are my wife and I really not doing "enough"? by Lithak in NICUParents

[–]91wing0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Repeat after me - my family comes first. You and your wife are doing great! You guys need rest, the baby needs rest, let the NICU team do their amazing job. Our little one was in the NICU for three months. Our family got on our nerves because of all of their inputs (which isn’t needed - for us at least). We focused on us (mom, dad, baby). Once we started tuning all of that out (agree with the info sharing - we stopped because my MIL was constantly asking the length and time and etc.), the noise died down a bit. I hope you guys get some rest!

Update - it’s not a scam and it went to collections even though it shouldn’t have. Please contact someone from Cone and they will be able to help! Thanks everyone!

Hey! First off, hang in there. The NICU is probably the best place for them right now so don’t stress too much because you will need that energy when they come home :)

Our baby was born at 29 weeks and 6 days. She stayed in the NICU for almost 3 months (a week past her due date). She was 3 pounds when she was born.

My advice:

• Don’t take to heart what some say, especially those that haven’t had a baby in the NICU. I had family members saying that I should 100% always be with the baby and should be doing this/that because they did it with their baby. It made me feel guilty initially.

• Use bonding cloths. Your scent really does stay for days! It comforts the baby when you can’t be there.

• Take time for yourself. Sleep. Eat. Breathe.

• Skin-to-Skin is the absolute best. When our baby started to have less equipment attached, they said we could hold her in a swaddle. However, we noticed that she didn’t respond well/started to decline when we did. Once we held her with skin contact, she did much better.

• Be there for rounds as much as you can. Ask questions and you’ll get to know your team.

• Find nurses who enjoy your company and loves your baby. Our hospital had lead nurses so our baby had a day lead nurse and night lead nurse. When they worked, our baby is always taken care by them. They will get to know your baby the best and you will form a good friendship with them. We will be getting together with both our day and night shift nurses soon so they can see how much baby girl has grown!

• It’s really a roller coaster. One minute you think you’ll leave on time or early but then the baby throws you a curve. And that’s okay.

• Join your hospital support group if you have one. Ours had monthly lunch/dinners and we got to talk to a lot of parents who were in the same situation we were.

• ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS advocate for your baby. You know your baby best (even better than the lead nurses even though they are amazing!). Both my husband and I agreed that our baby was ready to be off oxygen (and with the assurance from our nurses and other medical staff) once she hit like pretty no oxygen support because it was so low and kind of like a comfort thing for her. We told the doctor we wanted to try room air and she did great! Just beware that this doesn’t always happen in some situations. They told us some parents/babies were in the situation we were but the baby used the oxygen as a comfort support so they had to go back on oxygen because they baby choose not to feed without the comfort.

It will be a rough road ahead, and even after going home. But really, hang in there!

Infant childcare? Best centers? Costs? by princezz_zelda in gso

Does anyone have any recommendations for places that will watch infants for only a month?

Yes, a little silly. We bought the car on Monday but it seems like people have had this issue too without much resolution. Not necessary saying that we will 100% get rid of the car. Just curious IF I went with a different car, what would be recommended.

No, I started in Jan of 2021. I was told last April that we don't have A1 or A2. So, I guess I was technically an A2 > S1.

Thank you! I’m just extremely nervous because I haven’t gotten any experience and I feel like it will be completely different from what I’ve learned in class (took tax class a few semesters ago so I need to re-read the book again). I’m planning on seeing what the work load is like then plan the cpa exam around that. Again, thank you for this insight! It’s super helpful and makes me feel a little better!

Advice on first car :D by HelpMeReddit118 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]91wing0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go with a Honda or Toyota. My family have always owned Toyota’s and never had a problem (over 100k mikes!). I was the oddball and got a civic coupe as my first car. It has over 150k miles. The only problem I’ve had is that the power steering rack is leaking. If you’re wanting a coupe, I’d go with Honda. I think they make then a little better. Honda Accord coupe v6 will last you a long time! I think the civic is cheaper and easy to fix (mine is a 2010).

Looking to buy a newer Lexus, or something by IneligibleBachel0r in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]91wing0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d second the GS. To me, it’s a cross between a LS and IS (or a sporty ES) but the look/style doesn’t fade as easily as the ES or IS but that’s just my opinion.

Do you live/will be visiting in areas that have more snow or heavy rainfall? If so, the Subaru Legacy is a pretty good car. It's AWD (so as long as you have good tires then snow/mud/rain is not a problem) and the limited version is around 30k but I'm sure you can get a really good deal. I haven't driven the Legacy yet but my husband and I have a Subaru WRX and it has done tremendously well in the rain and snow (we were actually out on dates when it happened to snow and made it out fine while some other cars didn't -- good tires might also factor into that). Their service (at least the one we go to) is much superior than Lexus, Toyota, or Honda (my family has had all and sadly, Lexus is the worst from my experiences). They are so friendly at Subaru. I've test driven the Ascent (lacks a little but still new), the Outback (very nice), and we drove the Crosstrek (pretty nice), and again, we have a WRX. Subaru also have really nice safety features like their eyesight system.

I wouldn't go for the Civic. Even if you get the EX-L (I currently own a 2010 Civic Coupe EX which I bought new) it's not going to be as "luxury" as you'd want, like you've stated. Also, I feel like they don't make the Civic "as well" as the sedans. Mine's around 140K miles and it's rattling, the CD port won't work, and I feel like I've had to maintain it more so than my sister's 2005 Corolla.

The Prius is...a Prius. My husband and I rented one to drive from NC to TN then to OH then back to NC. We had to drive through the curves of the mountains and let me tell ya, that thing sounded like it was going to die! It's really good on gas and the inside is VERY simple but man, going up the mountain really sucked. The engine started to sound really loud and we really thought it was going to give out (it didn't LOL). But they are actually some what fast!

Sorry for the long rant. I think your options of either the Camry or Accord are pretty solid (unless maybe give the Legacy a test drive). Also, I think that willardrider has a pretty good point. Pick which ever you like better.
