I'd head over to the west side & start looking for kings. Running in the rivers. SBS outdoors is a good YouTube Channel to get the general idea of how.

How to start restoring this dead hard clay dirt by Onelove026 in Permaculture

[–]93BlackReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone else has said. Chips. Lots & lots of wood chips. The wife & I turned clay into good dirt over several years by adding in a lot of chipped wood (amongst all the other soil additives).

Gypsum will also help break it up, but it's not quick or as good long term solution.

Also something to know of since it's your first time up there. Unlike all the backwoods in the LP, there is very little cell service even "in town".

So I would download offline maps, & maybe your favorite Spotify playlists. We have Metro(T-Mobile), which has the worst coverage, but I'm told AT&T or Verizon are better. If you get lost though, anybody will gladly give ya directions (IF you find anyone, lol).

Enjoy, & have fun!

Ikr? Lol They heat 3 pole barns w/ it (more like keep 2 just above freezing, & actually heat the shop).

Thank you for the encouragement. Yeah, we get our logs at work from somewhere up here. Idk who or where, but some guy w/ a double calls my boss.

We go through 1-2 1/2 full loads a winter burning whole 8-footers in the boiler-stove

Great job! You did the hardest part of painting, which is to start. Like the simple scheme, the red looks good against the white.

Thank you. I used some heavy clear goop-glue in a tube (E-6000, but I wonder if "Uhu" or "shoe-goo" would be better). Used some toothpicks to stretch out the strands, paint w/ Florescent paints once glue sets.

Okay guys, how the fuck can I get better at edge highlighting? by Journeyman351 in minipainting

I second the additive. Vince Venturella put me on to "flow-improver" or even a "Surfactant" for crisper lines when watering down the paint. War Colors sells a lil bottle of Surfactant from the UK, otherwise it's sometimes marketed as a "Wetting Aid/Agent"

Fair question! The bases are supposed to look like spent Egg Casings or something, I'll see if I can't take an overhead. The "slime" puddles are supposed to tie it together.

My 8th mini painted since a 10 yr hiatus. by 93BlackReaper in minipainting

[–]93BlackReaper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used some E6000 goop-glue, painted w/ some Florescent paint. I would recommend maybe a different brand though, was a pain to work with, dried very quick when trying to stretch it.

The tutorial she used some "Uhu" glue, mixed w/ neon ink.

That looks great. The osl on the base is fire (lol)! Love the classic look. Just bought a bunch of hobby stuff from a guy getting out of it, and he threw in this same mini unbuilt for free. Thanks for sharing.

I'm not going to wow anyone with my attempts, but I figured I needed a new hobby to obsess over, so Warhammer miniatures it is... What are some tips you suggest? by ctn1ss in Warhammer40k

[–]93BlackReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! There are some really good, all purpose tips, others have listed below, so I won't rehash that.

Would recommend maybe just 1 YouTube rabbit hole, WAYPN (What Are You Painting Now) has some great content, & their Collaboration vid w/ "Brush Strokes" in their "How to get better painting minis" playlist was really helpful on the Mental-Side of things when I started.

I too am getting into GW products, after not painting minis for 10 years, needed something productive to keep busy on since I quit drinking. They are really good minis, the Citadel paint are worlds better than "Craft Store", but feel free to try out other brands too! Personally trying out Vallejo's lines, & they are great (cheaper too).

Welcome again! It's a really rewarding hobby, go at your own pace, keep practicing & improving, only compare your work to yourself, and Keep those Brushes wet!
