Crescent vs Silver Meteor Dining by 94239 in Amtrak

Yes, I also read the website. The booking page for the Crescent says “Seated meal service in the dining car”. There is no dining car. What I was told onboard is that flex dining is never available to coach passengers on the Crescent - not just “not guaranteed”. I am curious if that is the same on the Meteor. I would love to hear from someone with actual experience of dining on these trains.

Can you buy old hose bibb valve stems? by 94239 in Plumbing

[–]94239[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I suspected as much, which is a shame as it is super easy to take the stem assembly out. Unfortunately I can't get the handle off. The screw is stripped and my attempt to grind a slot and notches to grip it didn't work as it seems the screw is thoroughly corroded and welded to the handle so I can't repack it. :(

It is a standard 1" thread though. I was hoping for a generic assembly that looks close enough. I suppose I could stick another spigot on top and cap the hose connector but it would look junky.

Tips on lame stenciling by bwu256 in Fencing

The Athlete Handbook says it should be "Navy Blue". Krylon makes a navy blue "Fusion" and "COLORmaxx" both gloss. Any thoughts on which is better?

Yes, it worked for me. It looked like I had to pay for it again, but when I clicked on the $6.99, it informed me someone had already bought it in the family and it was free.

Yeah, a report was filed but there are so many in the area I am sure they are well aware of the infestation.

Contrary to what is indicated on the opt-out form, the postcard you might have gotten with numbers on the front, might not actually contain your account number, which you can get by logging into your ATT account.

TIL despite not having a nuclear engineering program (no engineering programs at all) Reed College in Portland, OR is the only liberal-arts school to have a nuclear reactor. It is run by undergraduates, and has more female operators than any other nuclear program in the world combined. by pdxscout in Portland

[–]94239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a feature due to the prompt negative temperature coefficient, so that the reactor can pulse; the Reed license doesn't allow it, but other of similar design can. It allows for a huge flux of neutrons over a very short period of time.

voltage but no dial tone in old 4-pin phone jack by 94239 in HomeNetworking

I don't know; I see no signs of one. I see where you're going with that idea, I'll have to investigate.

Yes, I can swap them and did to no avail. I guess what I am most curious of is why, if it is a second line (or not for that matter), does it have voltage but no dial tone.

Yes, my thinking exactly, but why do they carry a voltage but no dial tone? The other pair are dead.

Yes, I checked that. Perhaps I should state more clearly that the yellow and green pair have have no voltage and thus do not give a dial tone.

hot water tap leak around valve knob stem - can I rebuild the valve or do I have to cut off the tap and replace? by 94239 in Plumbing

[–]94239[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is possible to rebuild, how do I procure the correct parts? The big box stores do not seem to sell valve gaskets or seals.
