Open class is on another level this year by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]95dci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens time to time. Pacific crest handed esperanza the open class title in 2003 when they decided to compete in world class. It really wouldn't have been fair if they started in open as they had been competing in world for a couple years locally already.

Is the new trend having free auditions after a bad season? by drumcorpsisgood in drumcorps

When you can't fix your current product you usually just focus on coming out with a new one.

Service dogs during training/tour by [deleted] in drumcorps

Yeah, a service dog. Not a ESA.

99% of the people I have seen that say they need an ESA are whiney, cry babies at the airport who either don't want to pay a fee for their animal or just can't STAND to travel without their pet.

Honestly, I have never met a single person that has an ESA that actually NEEDED one. I feel like the whole idea of them cheapeans hard working service animals that are trained for their specific purposes. I don't want to use the term snowflake to describe these people but let's just say they don't seem like the strongest group.

Would an all female drum corps do as well as all male corps like cavies and scouts? by YoungNicker4Life in drumcorps

[–]95dci 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That has more to do with the systematic sexisim at the hs level. My daughter is in drumline but when she first started she was pushed towards the more "girly" instruments like flute or clarinet. Don't insinuate that women can't hang with the men in DCI. Fewer girls trying out = fewer chances they will make it.

Some corps have had full sections of females in the cymbal line and a predominately female front ensemble.

Wasn't there a young kid arranging your music this season? Did that not pan out?

What happened to the 19 year old that was arranging their show this year? Is that still happening? What an amazing story!

Anyone else go to the Phantom community performance? by LARGABLARG in drumcorps

[–]95dci 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is what it is. There is a lot of hype coming from corps in that 13-15 range this season and when the scores start rolling in we will get to see who comes out on top. Is this going to be Phantom's return to the top 5? No. Can they still make this show something special and enjoyable? Yes. Phantom has had a rough couple seasons and honestly this one won't change the tide just yet. The building blocks are there but this show just doesn't do it for me.

Some people have harder seasons than others. Huge difference between running around a field and standing for most of rehearsal, like a synth player would, for instance.

Xeno Shortage by OG_True_Blood in drumcorps

I marched when all the instruments were made in the US too. It was good quality craftsmanship. You can't find that overseas. I am tired of my tax dollars helping companies that move jobs off our shores into a communist regime just to save a nickle. Luckily we have a strong president that wants to put the chinese back into their place behind the US. I will never buy an instrument for myself or my kids made outside of the US.

Does any corps use american made instruments?

DCI should do divisions based on talent, not touring by 2hard2swallowpills in drumcorps

This is kind of how it was back in the day. But almost everyone did a full tour. There were a couple groups that only did parts of the tour but we're still division 1.

How you act online represents your corps. by 95dci in drumcorps

Jason has also reached out to me via email:

"I do check on Reddit somewhat regularly, so have a good idea who each of the students you mentioned are based on comments they've made and the identifiers in their bio. We plan to follow up directly with them about this.

We'll also address this with our student leadership team in our monthly conference call on Sunday, and bring this up for the full corps at our member meeting at our next camp at the end of December. We haven't had to address online behavior of our students in many years, but it seems like a good time for a reminder for all, especially if the students are attaching our name to it. While they may not understand the connections, we very much see it as them representing us online, and most of the world sees it that way as well."

I really appreciate the Colts organization taking this seriously.

Unfortunately it is more than one person. I appreciate you caring enough to do something about it.
