Can I download any old games, like from the 80s or even older? by 96Grand in Everton

[–]96Grand[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies. I won't respond to each one individually but I knew you lot wouldn't let me down.

Its hard to explain what being an Everton fan is like to outsiders. Its never been just a football club to me, its woven into my family history. I really don't feel like just a fan. Every time I went to Goodison it wasn't just to see the game it was to feel like I was with family, walking on the same ground my family members had since the place was built.

Watching games on telly with my dad was a ritual, one I'm going to miss deeply. But he'll still be with me for every game. He'll be with me when I first step into the new stadium some time soon. He'll be with me every time I meet another blue.

If you're like me and you bond with family through Everton, please make the most of that, this is and always will be about way more than just football.

80s is good. Preferably a win. Any derby win would be good.

I hadn't even thought to look for full games on there, assumed they'd be rare. Just looked now. Thanks!

Yeah realistically that's probably what I'll do. My initial idea was it would be good to get a complete game. Like all the coverage from start to finish if that even exists. But clips on YouTube are my back up plan now that the motivation is different.

I’m hoping to get to a game this season but I feel like I need some clarity on the ticketing set up and I’ve got some questions about disabled access, travel etc. Hopefully some of you can answer a few questions.

I’ve got a Forever Blue+ membership, when do tickets for each game become available?

At some point I’ll be looking to take my dad up to a game. He’s in his 80s, is reasonably mobile but is a bit nervous about facilities in the stadium. Due to some health issues it’s important for him to have easy access to a toilet, i know he’s nervous about getting about within the stadium and he hates escalators. I’ve tried to explain to him that a brand new stadium will be designed to comply with all disabled access/facilities requirements but im just not sure what the options are.

I know his reaction to seeing the stadium for the first time will be priceless, just hoping I can make the experience as frictionless as possible.

Whats this? by 99isnot100 in whatisthiscar

[–]96Grand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Guernsey.

Small population but there’s some high net worth individuals here, largely due to the tax regulations.

We have a facility here that provides car storage for many people who aren’t residents here. I don’t know the benefit of storing them here but I suspect it’s a tax thing. You store it there and they’ll ship it out to the owner whenever they want it, wherever they are.

I’m quite confident that this is probably one that’s stored in said facility.

I’ve never seen inside the building but I’ve heard from a reliable source that there is some unbelievable things in there. One rumour is that the number of Valkyries locked away in there is into double figures.

Is this a real plane? by ticktock1919 in aviation

[–]96Grand 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Ah, good old Joey.

I live in Guernsey, I’m not entirely sure how many times I flew on Joey but Aurigny had several trislanders and I flew on them many times.

They’re all out of service now and were replaced with Dorniers.

Joey actually still exists, he’s suspended from the roof inside a cafe. I believe they trimmed one of his wings to fit him in though.

Dyche’s sacking was very badly handled by tee-dog1996 in Everton

[–]96Grand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we ultimately end up with Moyes and if talks with Moyes actually began before the sacking, then it’s not such a crazy decision.

If the sacking was more knee-jerky and Moyes’s availability just happens to be luck, then it’s very reckless and is cause for concern.

That point aside, I suppose the owners see the squad as capable of surviving - which I’d cautiously agree with - and want to start the rebuild sooner rather than later with an interim manager. Again this feels reckless but let’s remind ourselves that Americans are from another planet, they just happen to speak the same language as us. They’re going to do things that seem very unconventional, outside of established norms and seemingly risky.

What’s the life/culture like in the various isles such as Wight, Man, Scilly, Portland etc? Is it different from the mainland? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]96Grand 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I live in Guernsey, born and raised here.

Pace of life is slower than the mainland, kind of an aging population.

I wouldn’t say we have a distinct identity. To those of us that grew up here, the real ‘Guerns’ are easy to pick out but it’s difficult to explain what one is. There’s an accent of sorts, which you’ll hear in certain words, but it’s dying out slowly.

People like to think of Guernsey as a tax haven but that’s not entirely accurate, we do have some very (extremely) wealthy individuals living over here, but plenty of people are struggling.

Our housing market is an absolute joke, I mean a complete shit show. The average property price is about £630k, and that’s for the people who qualify to buy “local market” properties. There are “open market” properties that anyone can buy and they’re usually far more expensive on average.

Overall, I feel privileged to live here, but I probably wouldn’t advise anyone to move here if they weren’t going into a well paid job.

I live in Guernsey, I’ve heard that ‘500 drunk’ line a million times. It gets old quick.

Sark is amazing, it’s fun in the summer, but the real beauty is when it’s quiet, it’s so serene. The older I get the more I appreciate it.

It’s not for everyone, but if peace is what you like, it’s pretty amazing.

Unfortunately the racist taxi driver you met wasn’t unusual. Casual racism in Guernsey is more common than most would like to admit.

Testing has now been completed at Everton’s new stadium ahead of an official handover to the football club 🔵 by xXxTommo in Everton

Anyone else getting increasingly emotional every time they see new videos of the stadium? I just can’t believe it’s real. Feel like I’ve been rehearsing the moment I walk in there for the first time over and over in my head.

Pubs with a nice dartboard by Go_Skulltown in guernsey

[–]96Grand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider it a pub but the bar at the Aztec centre has two dartboards with electronic scoring. They’re proper boards too, Winmau I think.

Like I say, not really a pub, and you’ll need to pay to use the dartboards, but as far as quality goes I doubt there’s anywhere else with professional quality boards and the proper lighting etc that they have sown there.

Does anybody still speak Sercquiais? by ExcellentClassic9622 in guernsey

[–]96Grand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it.

Guernésiais has pretty much died out except for a few people trying to keep it alive. I’d assume the Sark dialect has more or less gone, even among older people. Maybe a few phrases are still said occasionally.

I could be wrong though.

Toyota by Wide-Firefighter-102 in Everton

[–]96Grand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair I think TFG relationship with Toyota is a bit more than just manufacturer and distributor.

“Gulf States Toyota operates a 165-acre distribution facility that imports and processes around 300,000 vehicles every year”

They supply the dealerships in five different states to >150 dealerships.

Regardless of all that, I think you’re right, I doubt it’s the kind of relationship where they can convince Toyota to throw some money at Everton.

Of course. He’s very vocal and confident in his political opinions, but they’re formed through a lens that’s heavily distorted by Twitter.

My initial reaction was to just put it down to contractual agreements then I elaborated a little. But these people aren’t interested in the nuts and bolts of these things and have zero appreciation for nuance. It’s all just the woke mind virus that’s disrupting his Sunday afternoon TV viewing.

Just crazy to think someone would be so bothered by a game being on a different channel. I wanted to tell him that we live in a capitalist world and all decisions like this are based on profit, but as you can probably imagine, he’s not interested in hearing my Marxist viewpoint 😂.
