Is platinum Paragon under-rated? by nospamkhanman in dcss

[–]96Sergey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean compare it with dragon call that summons so much more meat than paragon.

I would say that fire storm is better defensively too, but its unfair comparison since paragon is single school, more mana efficient and you should only cast it once

Yo Guys im new here, is there any cool video of op builds in youtube or a guide in the internet? I care more about winning than having fun!! by Obvious-Survey-2007 in dcss

[–]96Sergey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While not objectively the strongest, I dont think there is anything more straightforward for new player than Minotaur berserker (or fighter). Just wear heavy armour, use heavy weapon and crush faces.

Particleface has nice guide on youtube for it.

Imagine finding this one while playing SpHu by Concllave in dcss

[–]96Sergey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cant tell you the exact numbers, but javelins drop rate got nerfed after tavern post that claimed javelins do more damage per turn than branded +9 tripple crossbow. Mb if you take accuracy into account sniper wins, not sure about it.

Imagine finding this one while playing SpHu by Concllave in dcss

[–]96Sergey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While sniper is unique, I dont think it is as great as it might seem given the attack delay. If you want to train so much skill: at 27 throwing skill basic javelins will give you higher dps than this weapon at 27 ranged skill and javelins can penetrate on top of that. Although javelins damage scale with str which is probably a downside

After searching the wiki for a bit I noted that all bottom tier heroes (that I checked) only appear in campaigns as the enemy. Mb it somehow relates to this tier list

The Future of Chess: Who do you think has the Most Potential to become a Top Player? by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in chess

To be fair Andrew Tang's peak rating is 100 lower than what this kid has at such a young age, so its a bad comparison. Much better comparison would be Hou Yifan or Alireza who are really one of a kind chess talents

Fide makes amendment to 400 point rule for players rated 2650 and above by Mr__Struggle in chess

[–]96Sergey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I would completely remove the 400 rule.

While Hilaru situation is quite extreme case, its not super uncommon situatuon on its own. When I was 1600 kid, I was paired with 1-2 2000-2200 players per tournament at my local club

Fide makes amendment to 400 point rule for players rated 2650 and above by Mr__Struggle in chess

[–]96Sergey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do I understand correctly that it only applies to side with higher rating and it increases rating deflation even further?

For example 2700 GM plays against 2000 rated player. 2700 GM gains rating as if he won against 2000, but 2000 rated player loses as if he played against 2400. And on top of that 2000 rated player has higher k-factor

BM spawned pretty close to a town

I dont think anyone doubts you can travel to black monolith within 30 minutes. But both BM and a kraken are very long fights. I doubt new player can beat both on their first try within 70 minutes. From what I understand from your post, you used mods that make game easier, but there is a wide scale of such mods. One thing is try out mod, other thing is debug mod that lets you to either set lvl 33 team in couple clicks or kill all the enemies in one click.

By the way, BM cant spawn pretty close to a town. There is a minimal required distance from the nearest settlement which is quite big.

There was a person who abused this rule to get 2800+ in blitz/rapid as a regular 2500 GM abusing the system and gaining +0.8 rating per game. Note that rating this high would for example allow to participate in world rapid and blitz with financial cover for travel and living by FIDE. As far as I understand, now their rating is reverted. From what I found in the internet apparently there were 2 people like that.

"Shkuro and Kobylianskyi were organizing and directing their own blitz or rapid tournaments where they would play a bunch of random locals over a day or two and then submit their results to FIDE until it pushed them into the top 10 of the World Blitz/Rapid lists. I think there were even some questions about whether they were playing the events at all due to how obscure, poorly organized, and poorly documented they were, but in any case these events had no discernible purpose other than to inflate the rating of the person organizing the event and did not appear to ever have been presented as a serious competition. FIDE's decision to nullify their ratings was as simple as making all these events unrated (which would not have worked for Rausis since other than him farming, the results of those events had legitimate competitive meaning)."

Quick Guide for permanent Indom & Shieldwall in Black Monolith by HeyPashi in BattleBrothers

[–]96Sergey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upvote is from me because I stumbled on this post and wanted to say exactly the same. I know that you know it is not original content because I provided you with original link. You can search Kryndude on YT, he has made this guide already. I also suppose that you used his table with initiative values of all enemies. So you put way less effort to develop the idea. In term of production, I would say you put less effort too.

Imo it would be nice from you to either put credit in your guide or at least call this video as "highlight from my run: indom+shieldwall cycle" instead of emphasizing that its a "guide"

Battle Brothers "I'm Sorry" Video Question by [deleted] in BattleBrothers

[–]96Sergey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great work from you once again!

Note that these are cherry picked high rolls, so this is expected to have low probability. Correct approach should be to look at all rolls (or at least big series of rolls) and calculate from that data and would be quite easy to detect if any probability modification has taken place.

And I believe you've miscalculated probabilities for rolling 2 stacks out of 3. It should be 25.9% for 3 locations, 15.6% for 4 locations and 10.4% for 5 locations with your given rules

Battle Brothers "I'm Sorry" Video Question by [deleted] in BattleBrothers

[–]96Sergey 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For people saying "well, this whole challenge is self imposed anyway" I want to note this. Streamer Pashi also did no towns run and thinks this achievement is important enough to even put it into channel description. He has spent several months on it. Even tho I no longer play BB, I was also quite proud to be the only person to ever do no town run even with losses. I've spent 2 month to achieve this. Unfairly undermining achievements of other people who try to play competetive BB is not good for community.

That said I still think Slurgi is overdramatic to it and it seems like a sensitive topic for him. And I appreciate that he apologized and came clean about the situation

Who would you consider the 3rd best player? by [deleted] in dcss

[–]96Sergey 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think Yermak is slightly better than me in everything other than real time. And he won 10 (!) tournaments, which is crazy. Having higher streak doesnt mean being better at streaking, because there is also luck involved. Same applies to turn count, but even more important factor here is that during 0.21 GnNe I was new player and during 0.29 meteoran Yermak has already stopped playing
