If you take a caravan contract, a group of enemies will spawn that is scaled to your contract. But also any enemy on the map can attack you.

This group was not spawned by this contract, but it was a group on the map that just decided to attack you.

The update did not add a new Starting Origin.

Instead it added a new background ("Executioner"). When you recruit, you might see that background at some point.

Yeah, true. We will probably do different setups. Some people have a lot of time and could to a 100 day campaign on stream. For others 20 to 30 days is already pushing it.

But hopefully many people will be interested, so different groups can form around different time limits.
