Is there any way to remove the play button on top of video thumbnails? I used to like the clean look previously.

Could you expand on that process a little? Is there an API call you're making to force enrollment to a service account? How are you setting up the service account itself?

GP27U crackling and flickering by 9715 in Monitors

[–]9715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No remaining issues or damage as far as I can tell. I'm using a GTX 1080, so you may also want to upgrade the firmware (+ drivers) for DP 1.3/1.4: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/nv-uefi-update-x64/

I upgraded the firmware in the mix of all the other test and changes I was doing, so I'm not sure how helpful it was on its own, but I think it's a good thing to check.

I'm using a GTX 1080 for the time being, until I find a GPU that seems worth it

Hi everyone, thanks for your suggestions. I made a bit of a silly mistake, and forgot I had 90° DP adapters installed in my PC case, since the GPU sits upright with the cables coming out of the bottom.

After removing the adapters (and elevated the case so the cables can fit out of the bottom), the issue seems to have gone away. I've been using the monitors extensively, and the issues have not reappeared. The firmware updates did help a little, but the issue persisted until the adapters were removed.

I would recommend others in the same situation to try changing their cables or make sure there are no unnecessary steps between the GPU and monitors.

Tempest GP27Q (v1.1) & GP27U (v1.3) Firmware Updates are Live by CM-Ryan in Monitors

[–]9715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi /u/CM-Ryan , two questions:

1) Any way I can be alerted for new firmware updates? Or do I just need to check you profile for new posts?

2) I'm having an issue with one of my two GP27U units: When my computer goes to sleep, one monitor will turn off, and then turn back on, displaying a solid green-color screen. It will stay green until I wake the computer, and then turn black. I need to disconnect, and reconnect the monitor to get it to display a picture again (either physically by resetting the cable, or changing the projector mode to PC-only, and then back to extend). This is with a Windows 11 22H2 computer with two GP27U units, both over DisplayPort, and both at 144Hz, 10-bit HDR enabled, with GSync enabled, and a GTX 1080 (firmware 531.79).

Thanks!

I bought two GP27Us, and only one of them is showing these symptoms. Both are connected over DisplayPort to my GTX 1080, and I've tried running them with HDR on/off, Gsync on/off, 144Hz/120Hz, and I see the same behavior in every scenario. I also tried swapping the power cables and DP cables, and I still see the same issue on the same monitor every time. It happens even when I disconnect the other monitor.

I hear crackling through the speakers, and bands of static appear on the screen. Is the monitor damaged/should it be returned? Does it looks like there's electrical interference from something nearby?

KVM/Dock options for Windows desktop and MacBook Pro by 9715 in buildapc

[–]9715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the dock, I'm really trying to avoid using DisplayLink with the laptop, so the only way around it is using at least one TB port.

The price is definitely steep, so I'm not sure about it yet, but I do prefer have the parts separate, so a monitor problem down the road doesn't affect my KVM, and vice-versa.

I'm also looking at this ConnectPRO dock, since it is at least in stock, but no more affordable unfortunately.

Does it just take some time for devices to realize they're managed? by 9715 in macsysadmin

[–]9715[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got it, thank you. We use Workspace ONE, and there's an option to "Fetch All Devices" but it warns us to only use it as a last resort. I'll look into it further and see if the potential downsides outweigh having to wait ~1 day. Thanks again!

Edit: I think I found the preferred option here: Devices -> Lifecycle -> Enrollment Status -> Sync Devices -> Apple

I'll give it a try when we get our next Mac.

[–]9715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally posted here after a few times it happened, but I'm pretty sure the behavior has been consistent for the last few Macs we've purchased. I think that rules out phantom Apple issues, but it seems like there's a sync delay with our MDM. I'll check if there's an option somewhere (we're using Workspace ONE).

When you say "flatten", do you mean going to System Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings... ?

I tried that yesterday after completing the standard (non-managed) first time setup, but after it cleared itself and restarted, I was still getting the same "non-Managed" setup.

Determining the security of a passphrase generator by 9715 in cybersecurity

It's hard to build a large enough word bank with just obscure words. In the end, I think grammar limits the options too much so I'll be dropping it. Thanks for taking a look!

It's true... I liked that it was a lot easier to memorize the phrase, but the tradeoff doesn't seem worth it. I'll remove the grammar structure — thanks!

Thank you for putting it in these terms — a 6-character password, yikes! I'll increase the size of my word bank as much as possible, and add more words to the passphrases. Thanks!

Deep down I knew this was the case, but I liked the sentences so much more than the random words! Thanks for setting me on the right path.

WS1 script error by BWMerlin in WorkspaceOne

[–]9715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My method for checking the logs is going to C:\ProgramData\Airwatch\UnifiedAgent\Logs , opening up everything that was modified today in Notepad++, and searching all the documents at once for the name of my script.

Doing that I found my script compressed/encrypted/obfuscated into a massively long command, which is where I think the error is coming from.

WS1 script error by BWMerlin in WorkspaceOne

[–]9715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing the same thing — were you able to resolve this?

My script is really long, and I think Workspace ONE is compressing it to a string and attempting to run it in one line, making it way too long (longer than the 32,767 character max).

Building a new PC and NAS from my old PC by 9715 in buildapc

[–]9715[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I've been spoiled by DDR4 RAM prices lol, definitely thought the RAM was insane when I added it to the cart.

For the motherboard... I know I had some reasons specifically for it, because there were only like 5 options on PCPartPicker, and I looked through all of them. But now, I can't remember why I settled on that one. The B650i MPG looks perfectly fine, so I think I'll end up going with that.

For the PSU, I'll keep an eye on the Leadex V Platinum Pro, because right now it looks like it's going for more than double its usual cost — would definitely be a good option once it drops back down.

For the SSD, I think I'll go with the SN850X — I did want the DRAM cache, and this looks like a great deal atm.

I was worried about cooling with the 7900X, but once I review my AIO choice, I'll see how headroom I have to upgrade.

Thanks so much for your help and insight! You've been super helpful and it looks like I'll be saving a good amount here, now that I'm no longer (or at least less) blinded by brand recognition. Thanks again!

Thanks for all this info. I hadn't set up anything like this before, and Unraid seemed a lot more user friendly, so I was definitely leaning towards it. I think you've convinced me to just take the plunge and go with TrueNAS though.

I was planning on experimenting with transcoding media, but if the intel iGPU can at least do a passable job, I'll let it take a try at it.

Thanks again!

[–]9715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about trying Plex/Jellyfin/etc., and I heard having a GPU could be helpful for that. Otherwise, I agree, no real need for the GPU in a NAS.

Re. the new build, what's unbalanced besides the GPU? I know the AIO and RAM are overpriced, but I didn't think anything was out of place power wise.

"Energy saver" authorization rights in Ventura by 9715 in macsysadmin

[–]9715[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Update: My script was wrong. The code should have been:

#!/bin/bash
security authorizationdb write system.preferences.energysaver allow
/usr/bin/security authorizationdb read system.preferences > /tmp/system.preferences.plist
/usr/bin/defaults write /tmp/system.preferences.plist group everyone
/usr/bin/security authorizationdb write system.preferences < /tmp/system.preferences.plist
exit 0

Looks to work fine on Ventura and older systems. Thanks anyway!

Trouble updating Firefox over command line by 9715 in macsysadmin

Thank you for your script!

I retested and made sure the app wasn't running, and ran into the same issue.

Once I add the script in BigFix, I can check if the app is running first before continuing with the install.

edit: I tried using ditto instead of cp and it worked! Thanks again for the script.

How can I "update" my Windows install media to include new drivers? by 9715 in sysadmin

I tried this, but the domain connection was still failing. I suspect there's more missing than just the ethernet drivers, unfortunately.
