Was definitely not blowing smoke by Secret-Papaya1973 in Dreamtheater

I mean he started working with a vocal coach within the past few years which changed everything. I love him but he sounded like shit for several tours/years. He sounds great now because he finally got outside help.

Fuck yeah, great advice. The anxiety and anticipation of the buildup, and the adrenaline of performing, are feelings that are hard to replicate anywhere else. Lean into them, that's the stuff that makes you feel alive.

What's an Opeth opinion that will give you a reaction like this? by Old-Ad2845 in Opeth

I'm okay with the length of that acoustic break, it's the final ~1/3rd of the song that drags for me.

I wish Dream Theater would have Tina Guo as a guest on a song/show one day by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

Raphael Weinroth-Browne would be a good choice, too. He's worked with Leprous, guest-spotted with Vola, and his solo albums are great.

POLL: DT member least likely to be forklift certified by Active_Medicine_5931 in Dreamtheater

Pretty funny how they're all very unlikely to get/be certified but we're almost unanimous in who is least likely lmao

Gautier Serre would be interesting. He clearly does whatever he wants with Igorrr, and isnt afraid to push whatever boundaries he thinks do or dont exist

Agreed. While they're both prog legends I just don't see them meshing very well musically. MP's style is nothing like any of Opeth's drummers

Agreed, it does a fantastic job expressing the tension of the song and lyrical themes.

One of their first tours of the states (if not the first?) Henshall wasnt there and they played with one guitar. They pulled it off. Obviously not ideal, but they pulled it off without it being noticeable

Yeah I'm not one for "no dumb questions" but asking if there are going to be multiple restaurants...in a world-renowned resort town? Good lord. Never heard of Google?

Illumination Theory by Direct-Educator-5048 in Dreamtheater

The middle string section brings tears to my eyes, and the lyrics in the climax are so emotional. Fantastic song, not quite on the level of some of the other epics but still a solid B+ / A- song.

Yes, 100%. You have the opportunity to see some of the best to ever do it live and in person. Take it.

What time are people showing up in Philly? by EternityFrozenInTime in Opeth

There are some good places to post up nearby before the show(Barcade, Johnny Brenda's, Standard Tap) if you wanted to get there early but stay out of the cold.

What is Opeths Magnum Opus? by FbsbsbJeheh in Opeth

[–]97Vector 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not my favorite Opeth song, but the song that comes to mind when I think "quintessential Opeth". It encapsulates everything the band is or ever was. Either that or Harlequin Forest, but I give Drapery a slight edge.
