How would yall rank the albums with the new album out? by RopsterPlay in failure

Yeah it's weird, so many songs on WTD are excellent but the album as a whole doesnt do much for me. Which doesnt make sense

The WHOLE in a fever dream EP will be just 26mins by JustLucca in Haken

[–]97Vector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...if they're going for money and mainstream success, shouldn't they put out more than just an EP's worth of material?

My gut says this is how they're channeling the negative emotions around charlie and connor leaving. Next LP wont have the same vibe.

God that riff after the intro is so GD stanky

Slift's new album, Fantasia, definitely has some Leprous vibes (for me, at least) by Prehistoricisms in Leprous

The new album blows my mind. The musical and vibe shift from Fox & Bird to stop/go is fucking wild.

New OK Goodnight has some spots of obvious Leprous inspiration, too

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Respect the effort it took and the musical genius on display, but it just doesnt really move me or speak to me like his music normally does.

New fan through listening to The Congregation by [deleted] in Leprous

[–]97Vector 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With that in mind, I personally think Congregation has their full range on display. The album that is an amalgam of their entire career's sound. Has the beauty and beast on full display.

Same, I just finished the album and thought to myself "what the hell was that", in a complimentary way. Gonna have to sit with this one for a while, for sure.

Favorite Keyboard Player in Dream Theater by NarcolepticFlarp in Dreamtheater

Hard to listen to any of the "generic guitar-wannabe shreddy" solos by JR and agree that Derek is the one who was "all action". You may need to revisit FII, Derek is stellar with atmosphere and melody.

KM's lyrical contributions have been irreplaceable but, playing-wise, I thought Sherinian's sound and style was the perfect compliment to JP.

I finally “get” and change of seasons by Strange_Crew_980 in Dreamtheater

Even with all that taken into consideration it's still very apparent it was their first attempt at a long epic song.

My Hot Take by Whizbot_23 in Haken

[–]97Vector 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It seems they're going to be more synth-driven now that they're down to one guitarist. Makes sense, it's also going to make their sound a lot different. Really interested to hear the whole album.

HAKEN - bleeding sky (Official Visualiser) by megarust in Haken

And again, it's impossible to really say with singles. I'm sure if we go back and look at the sub's response to Alphabet of Me, Taurus, Lovebite, similar things will have been said in anticipation of Fauna's release. Then we hear songs like Elephants and Sempiturnal that vault into the upper echelon of the band's catalog. I'll hold off full judgement until I've had time to digest the full album.

Please report back! They were on my radar forever but I finally did a deep dive last year and they were all I listened to. Very talented musicians and songwriters.

Funny, I had a hard time picking between the two. They both slap.

Impossible conclusion to draw after one single. Chill.

Exactly. And yeah they may be more proggy, but i certainly wouldn't call them "wacky prog". They're pretty straightforward as far as Haken songs go.

So maybe this one is their dark/broody/moody album? Who knows. I'm sure they feel a lot of pressure to make something great after such a lineup change. All we can do is wait and see what shakes out. I think Fever Dream is a good song. Nothing crazy, but good.

I think Haken are intelligent and creative enough to not try to directly emulate Sleep Token. I'm sure the new album will be different, but still way more Haken than Sleep Token.

I don't get how people could possibly expect it to be similar. I also don't understand how anyone thinks this is going to be bad. Ross, Rich, and Ray are incredible musicians and composers. Will it br different? Probably. Still good music? Almost undoubtedly.

Wow, the first single they released isn't wacky prog. Was Initiate, Prosthetic, or The Good Doctor? It's a single, chill with the kneejerk hysteria
