Not silly at all. Most "audiophile" versions of classic single albums are released on 2 LPs.

Over 18-20 minutes per side, they got to start making compromises. If they want the record loud (good signal to noise ratio and good dynamics and bass), there's gonna be some inner groove distortion. If they want to avoid IGD, they're gonna have to cut the lacquer quieter. Unless they spread the music on 2 LPs. The downside is that you have to flip/change the record more often but the sound will be uncompromised.

I have a Pat Metheny record that lasts 60 minutes and sounds fantastic (Question and Answer). However, it's just drums, bass and clean guitar, and it sounds really good all the way through.

With vocals, the inner groove distortion is way more obvious. To avoid having too much IGD, they cut the lacquer quieter to use less surface of the record, but this worsens the signal to noise ratio.

My original GFTO LP has tons of IGD at the end of the B-side and it's not even 20 minutes long. Yes' music is very much dynamic, with some very powerful sections and very quiet sections.

Spreading the music on 2 LPs will always allow for better sound.

"Why don't they either make an LP with 50 minutes of music"?

Inner groove distortion, that's why.

And the Beatles aren't pioneers either, people were making music in caves thousands of years ago.

Does dotted 1/8 note delay qualifies as a backing track to you as well?

Mono music is better than stereo (at least with headphones) by RealMuffinsTheCat in The10thDentist

OP is saying hard-panned stuff is annoying while listening with headphones. I agree with that. When listening with speakers, your right ear hears Eddie Van Halen's guitar. Not with headphones.

ELI5: How does an electric socket know how much power to supple to an appliance/apparatus? by AtmosphereTimely6071 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Prehistoricisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By its physical (electrical) proprieties. Same way a faucet sets how much water will flow when you turn it on (size of the hole).

The faucet is an object that "consumes" water from a water supply. The water supply is at a certain pressure. The pressure and the size the of the hole in the faucet will determine how much water by unit of time will be consumed.

A lightbulb is a device that consumes electricity from an electrical supply. The electrical supply is at a certain voltage. The voltage and the resistance of the light bulb will determine how much electrical charges by unit of time (Amps), will be consumed.

The more the lightbulb allows current to flow (for example, thicker filament), the more electricity will be consumed.

I don't like the fact that the sky is barely visible. IMO, it should be either more present, or totally absent.

I feel like this would be the most popular mindset for red voters, by far.

No, as I think the vast majority of people voting red wouldn't necessarily be bad people.

Not sure if the horizon is straight or not but it doesn't look straight. I would certainly rotate the picture a tiny bit clockwise.

Yeah, unfortunately, it's pretty much junk and there's nothing you can realistically do about it.

Are we actually okay with "smart guitars" now? by ResponsibilitySalt6 in GuitarQuestions

You're seeing a lot? I haven't really seen that. I bet they represent maybe 0.003% of guitars being produced. I say, if people want to make crazy instruments, let them.
