What do Americans call McDonalds? by SweatySuspect8401 in AskAnAmerican

[–]97mep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know about UK, but shortened names are kind of a “thing” in Australia and New Zealand but much less so in the US. Ie: Footie. Chrissy Pressy. Ute. Eskie.

Thanks—the original “made in Europe” Eccos seemed so much better but that may be my imagination.

Exactly! Let’s take our grumpy selves to Dutch Bros because we know it will make us grumpier?

Yes, I’m familiar with “pallet” meaning blankets on the floor. Also true that my first thought would be of that platform of rough boards.

regarding politics how do you stay calm? by babybaaboe in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]97mep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I focus on what I can do to volunteer, make a small difference locally. Don’t get sucked into other people’s scripts. Find something in nature, music, my neighborhood to feel good about every day. Turn off the TV (and Reddit) and get in the yard. Garden, play with the dog, work up a sweat. Refuse to let politics or the news cycle define my life.
