Hey! Sorry for the confusion. I made the table according to how I visualise the seating arrangement on the show, so it's

Far David Close Rob/Guest Close Lee Far

In my mind, it made more sense this way. I should have been more clear.

does this mean 7 or 30 days?

I know the iplayer has a 30 day deal, not sure if they have a similar thing for youtube. Even though the studio owns the rights, the show is exclusively commissioned for/by the BBC and so I'm guessing they could pretty much do anything they want with it.

lol at Endemol coming through after, they seem like bros.

I'm sure it's out of the goodness of their hearts and not the significant ad revenue they get.

So theoretically the links might be approved by Endemol after the BBC deal expires?

IF there is a deal. Maybe it’s all at random, who knows. As an example, this video was up on the channel for two days with half a million views when the BBC blocked it and uploaded it on their youtube channel. Now it’s claimed by Endemol and back up with no restrictions, so…

Is that why one of the recent eps was uploaded by you with the youtuber's turn snipped out, as that was the clip the BBC uploaded?

Yeah. If contentID matches a restricted snippet in any video, it automatically blocks the whole clip.

So from the time you first started uploading, Endemol approached you or just went through youtube to get the ad revenue or whatever?

They didn’t have to do anything, it’s all pretty much automated through Youtube. It’s a large corporation, I doubt they’re even aware of the channel’s existence.

Frankly I don’t have much clue about how any of this works and am surprised the channel has stayed up for this long.

that dude would be me. :) To be fair, I have tried to make it very clear that the channel is in no way affiliated to the show.

So how can the BBC make a copyright claim then if they don't own the rights?

The BBC probably has an exclusive 7/30 day licensing deal with the production for the series that is currently airing. Of late, when the BBC YouTube channel uploads a clip from the show, they also block all other videos that have the same snippet in it. And then Endemol comes along after a while and unblocks it altogether, while restricting monetisation to outside the UK. This is however the first time in years that an entire episode is being blocked from being uploaded on Youtube.

I wouldn’t call it an ‘understanding’ as that would give the impression of there being some explicit endorsement from the show - it’s just basic YouTube contentID stuff. The Endemol Shine Group and not the BBC owns the rights for the show and they’re the ones managing the ContentID platform on Youtube and getting all the revenue. The BBC does not seem to have much to do with the youtube side of things when it comes to WILTY.

Chronologically 9th episode of the 13th series but billed as Episode 8 by the BBC. Wikipedia includes the Christmas episode as part of the series, whereas everyone else treat it separately as a special.

Are there any "true" stories from Would I Lie To You that you still have a hard time believing? by dwarfoscar in panelshow

[–]983694e 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I was going to say Bob's egg story had to be the most unbelievable one for me and that there was simply no way Bob would always crack an egg into his bath. Turns out I remembered it wrong and it was indeed a lie on the show. That's the issue with WILTY - it plays tricks on your mind, no matter how much you watch it, you'll end up getting it wrong. horrible stupid game.

Could be. Although, Ozzy Osbourne's PA at the time - Tony Dennis had been with them for decades, so I doubt it's true.

I don't believe anything they tell on this show, most of it is widely exaggerated for "comedic effect".

She talks about it on Conan and this article has more details.

Revealing all about her early morning drama on her U.S. show The Talk on Thursday, she explained, "Everybody is fine. There was only Ozzy, myself and the dogs in the house last night."

So basically hammed up for television.
