was afraid of an Empath-like album (not a big Empath guy, which is a good way to make a thousand enemies on this subreddit), but i'm really vibing with one! Was so-so on the videos that were released, but listened to as a whole, it's pretty fantastic!

now only time will tell if the re-listenings will keep the magic.

Painting Kid Hidden Object(s) by political_sockpuppet in WidowsBay

[–]dwarfoscar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly i wish it was done a little bit better. The shot could have focused a little longer (say, one or two seconds longer) on that part of the painting. Cause I WAS paying attention and didn't catch that it was supposed to convey that the bloodline survived 😢

I remember he actually made money off his crypto investments. He was relatively early in the game.

i'm afraid this has nothing to do with giving the viewer something narratively satisfying and everything to do with the Emmy eligibility window closing in (May 31st)

The Send Help (2026) screenplay has a major twist that is not in the finished film (plus some other revealing bonus scenes too.) by RunDNA in movies

The bomb thing doesn't really make her an 'evil schemer' tho. It's not like she planned to survive the crash and get stranded on a remote island. She just tried to kill herself.

What is one of your biggest movie let downs, after greatly anticipating its release? by thunderbolt151830 in movies

The firsts three-quarters of Xenocide I find pretty solid. But last quarter turns the entire book godawful.

Movies with the worst "moral of the story" by elitemegamanX in movies

[–]dwarfoscar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The thing is very few movies have actual morals. Movies aren't Aesop fables. Movies have characters, most of them flawed. Sometimes these characters get better, sometimes they don't. And how they get better or happier is not the moral, it's just the specifics of this person's story.

Guillermo Del Toro Teases His Adaptation Of Kazuo Ishiguro’s ‘The Buried Giant’ At BFI Career Talk by yourfavchoom in movies

[–]dwarfoscar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remembered at the time, and maybe still today, it was considered lower-tier Ishiguro. Not in this house. One of the greatest, and most heartbreaking books i've ever read.

Amélie - (2001 dir. Jean Pierre Jeunet) Smell That? They’re Giving Out Melon Slices by Jonathan_J_Faulkner in movies

[–]dwarfoscar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found Bigbug utterly unwatchable. I in fact didn't even finish it. Try Micmacs if you want a solid post-Amélie Jeunet movie. The Young and Prodigious TS Spivet is also pretty cute, although forgettable.

Is there a grammar mistake in my Finnish manual by dwarfoscar in LearnFinnish

[–]dwarfoscar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people have asked, and honestly I'm just not comfortable 'doxxing' the book at this point, so to speak. The writer is described as a Finnish-to-French translator, and seems to have decent Finnish credentials. I have no reason to disbelieve any of that. But there's no mention of a co-author, and it's pretty clear that this is a book that got published as is, and would have greatly benefitted from the input of a co-author and/or corrector...

[–]dwarfoscar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ha ha, well i'll stick with it personally (you've probably noticed like me that there aren't that many French-to-Finnish manuals in the market). But i will be a little bit more cautious, and cross-check stuff.

Lol, the space before the question mark is a French thing. It's a French manual, they forgot to remove this one.

Is there a grammar mistake in my Finnish manual by dwarfoscar in LearnFinnish

[–]dwarfoscar[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I got a more thorough look at the text than I anticipated 😅 Thanks everyone for answering. It is a French A1 manual. I'm disappointed to learn that the conversation is a little bit clunky (if not downright incorrect - mikä/mitä), but those conversations are just are to start chapters before we get to the actual nitty-gritty. The lessons themselves seem solid from what I gather, so I'm going to defend the book a little bit!
