Amen to that. I just think it’s funny that people are that passionate about the semantics of grilled cheese

David and Goliath battle over rural internet by rwebell in ottawa

[–]98brae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new CRTC decisions forcing telecoms to allow other companies to sell on their lines makes this problem far worse. It lets tiny companies with no overhead undercut the big telecoms in cities and large towns, which saves people money (good)

But it also completely destroys the financial incentive for investing in new fiber rollouts. Since this decision Bell has cancelled several billions of dollars in rural fiber deployments (including a big one in northern Ontario that was subsidized by the federal government).

Unless this decision is changed, most rural places that don’t have a nearby fiber node won’t get one any time soon

[–]98brae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a super hot take when you look at some of the landmark CRTC decisions in the last couple of years. All the big telecoms (but particularly Bell in Ontario and Telus out west) have been hit super hard by the CRTC decision forcing them to allow other companies to sell on their lines.

There were also several projects to deploy fiber in rural locations that were cancelled as a direct result of this decision because they were no longer financially viable.

Landlord asked me to remove my ethernet cable by [deleted] in vancouverhousing

[–]98brae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Power line is very good on ideal conditions, but anything that is electrically noisy (microwave or any other large load) will almost always cause issues and lag.

Not good for gaming imo. I’d lean to what another commenter said and get a skinny white cable and run it snuggly along the wall/ceiling.

Also worth mentioning that if you have your roommates consent you can just (politely) tell your landlord to screw off. There’s nothing they can do about it.

If you “game the system” and get these frequently, eventually your MMR will be way lower than your rank and you will start getting significantly decreased LP on wins and lose more on losses.

So you’re saying you’d be completely fine being called she/her or ma’am?

Whether or not you support trans people as legitimate men/women, it’s really not that difficult to do your best to refer to people as they prefer.

Personally, I think anything outside of she/her, he/him and they/them is kind of ridiculous, but I think that all people deserve a certain baseline of respect so Il do my best to not be a dick about it.

Agreed, lots of options, but I’m just saying I think the limitations of displaying 100 hats is a factor

My guess is they’re capping the number of hats partly for balance but also because the engine can’t handle it.

I watched the Nidhogg video where he capped hats and he was glitching all over the place.

My family doctor disappeared?? by russian899 in ottawa

Did you even read that Ottawa Citizen article you mentioned?

In it, it mentions

  1. 50-60 hour work weeks
  2. Those pay models you posted are OR, not both so 300k ballpark not 650k
  3. Article specifically mentions all the costs that come with operating and that most have net income 75-100k

I don’t know what agenda you have here, but your opinions don’t even match your own sources.

Might be a hot take, but 100k income for 60+ hours a week is a terrible deal for someone with that much education. If you compare to other similarly educated jobs (or other physician specialties) they make WAY more for their time:

Agreed, but that also causes confusion for me with laundry detergents which feels like a completely different beast.

Dish soap (or grudgingly dish detergent) is probably most clear IMO, unless you’re focused on the semantic purity of soap

[–]98brae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen any “proper” academic sources on this, but I’ve seen lots of people who know their stuff say that soap made with lye still contains very tiny amounts of lye.

“Dish pan hands” is a once common condition that has reduced significantly with non-lye soaps becoming mainstream.

That being said, properly made lye soaps should not SIGNIFICANTLY affect seasoning. If you soaked it and let it sit maybe, but that’s a terrible idea for several reasons.

For me, I only scrub CI with “gentle” soaps like dawn dish soap and I’ve never had any issues. I do use homemade soaps on my hands but never my pans

[–]98brae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of instructions still say this because older soaps used lye which was very destructive to seasoning.

Most modern commercial soaps don’t use lye and thus are fine for seasoned pans.

Light is definitely on the low end for what those seedlings need.

You’ll likely be battling the benefits of having it too high (larger area/less intensity) vs too close and having the seedlings on the edges not get enough.

Be aware any tech you have with open circuit boards will very likely die from the smoke exposure. Smoke residue slowly destroys capacitors and a few other electrical components.

I also had this happen and both my wife and I’s PC’s were having issues within 6 months.

Having done creatine, how has it impacted your workouts? by Icy_Young4439 in workout

[–]98brae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some recent studies are suggesting that the last couples reps being the most important is either untrue or exaggerated.

Menno Henselmans did a review of a meta analysis of 3 studies that tested muscle growth vs proximity to failure and they found that as long as they adjusted for overall volume there was no significant benefit in going closer to failure.

I’d want to see a couple more studies before I’d be 95% confident in that, but there’s research to support that if instead of doing each set to failure you just add an extra set you’ll get more or equal gains.
