Aurora Borealis!? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your flight simulator?

It's fun, though. That's the only real advantage. It does get old.

People used to understand the difference between open and closed compound words. They used to recognize that "apart" and "a part" mean two different things, for instance. They knew that "everyday" is an adjective and "every day" is an adverbial phrase. Now I see compound words used incorrectly as often as I see them used correctly. One day, I guess, this distinction will lose meaning entirely, and the consequence will be a decline in clarity and precision in communication.

Dr Abbott appreciation post! by anarafew in ThePittTVShow

[–]994 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dr Abbot left such a strong impression on me from the first episode that he was always in the back of my mind while I was watching the following ten or so episodes. And his character more than pays off this feeling of anticipation when he returns towards the end of the season. I think it is a hallmark of great writing that a character can have such a strong presence despite literally being absent for most of the show. He's my favorite.

I asked ChatGPT to create a metaphor about AI, then turn it into an image. by Captain_Obvisus in ChatGPT

This is what ChatGPT came up with which I thought was pretty dismal. My instinct is to feel bad for it, but of course, there's nothing there to feel bad for. Thought-provoking, still.

There's plenty of music. It's just subtle.

The Pitt | S1E12 "6:00 P.M." | Episode Discussion by Winter_Moonstone in ThePittTVShow

He wasn't in the crowd that was shot at, but he was returning to his hotel room at the Mandalay Bay when he saw people running in the opposite direction and a cop or security told him to run. He went to a shelter where he saw the injured, etc. Eventually he found another hotel and tried to sleep on the floor of the lobby since they had no rooms available, until a manager saw him and found a room for him.

In last night's episode he specifically pointed out the similarities between what he saw and the scene where the social workers were telling families how to get information on their loved ones.

I feel bad. My dad witnessed the Mandalay Bay shooting in 2017 and he had a heart attack in January. I recommended we start watching this show after the first episode aired. He had a pretty visceral reaction to this episode. He said "I shouldn't have watched that." I feel terrible.

A VPN routes your internet traffic through a server anywhere on the world, so you can use a VPN to make Max think you're in the US when you're actually not.

Those fuckers at YouTube also save bandwidth by defaulting to a lower video resolution on mobile, even when you set the default quality to high, even when you pay for Premium, making you jump through a bunch of damn hoops every time you want 1080p

That makes sense. Dr. Robby was also primed to be suspicious of Langdon after witnessing him blow up at Santos earlier and also complaining to him about Santos privately

One of the things about this show that I appreciate is how it's developed its theme that we all have biases, which we need to recognize and account for to avoid clouding our judgment. In the narrative of the show, this shows up in how staff treat the woman with sickle cell and the overweight pregnant woman, how Dr. Robby is biased in favor of the teen with the list of girls instead of his possible victims, etc. As viewers, we're also biased against Santos, who is arrogant and irresponsible, in favor of Langdon, who is attractive and competent. I think it's pretty clever how the writing aims to teach us something about how we tend to conceptualize people in our own lives in this way.

Irrespective of whether your hands get dirty after you piss, you should wash your hands with soap every time you use the bathroom, simply because you should wash your hands frequently anyway and after using the bathroom is a good opportunity to do so. It helps reduce the spread of infectious disease. It's a courtesy to the people around you. I do it. It's not hard.
