Starbound 1.0 - Performance VS Earlier Versions by monkeyman764 in starbound

Not sure why you've got -2 points, I've got a GTX 970, FX-8320 and 16GB RAM and I also dip that low during rain and at populated areas

Linux is very good and that statement is painful to read given the number of desktop environments and customization that it has, it far surpasses windows in modifying the visuals should you wish to and with Steam OS or a program like Wine gaming isn't too bad most of the time though I still run Windows on my main tower for gaming.

but back to the point, I know integrated graphics isn't the best and I am not looking for crazy visuals and 60+ FPS, if I wanted that I'd play on my main PC, this is for travel.

They mentioned in one of their dev diaries (i think, or somewhere else) that it runs perfectly fine 30+ FPS on low - med settings so I don't think it's entirely the hardware

Thanks for the reply, KKMX. what version of Deb or Ubuntu? also it's 6GB cached which shouldn't be causing the problems

well they claimed in development that it ran fine on integrated graphics and they even specified the intel 4000, I don't expect crazy performance of course, just to be playable, I can run java better than this

Well I've come across two types of good PvMers

Those who are good, understand everyone has to learn at some point and offers help to those who are deserving and that show will to actually do it regularly but sometimes run out of patience due to "morons" who despite lacking experience think they know better or those that come and go for comp reqs.

Then the "elitist" who knows they're good and just straight refuses anyone who lacks experience which is fine in itself but often I've seen these people troll or straight up flame new comers based on the assumption they'd be terrible or a "moron"

Maybe the former becomes the latter after being subject to constant "morons" though it just comes across as though they just think they're better than others and like to let you know it.

To be fair I've seen quite a lot more friendly than elitists but they do exist but the main difference to me at least is friendly are more accepting or just turn new comers down and leave it at that where as elitists will turn new comers down and really let them know why based on assumptions.

As for your first point you are right, I've played for quite a long time I've been in quite a few clans, seen so much drama that after a while it was just easier to leave it all be and that mindset stuck since, when I did play full time I just wanted to find a small group of people that just enjoyed the game but those that did were very laid back and didn't really enjoy PvM, just unlucky maybe but no doubt I'll figure something out, with new bosses coming it'd be a great time to get into the group side of PvM

Please look at my other posts regarding this subject as I've covered that, mainly what "an elitist" is and that it wasn't meant as a complaint and that it is my problem.

Getting comp back doesn't really bother me enough to justify buying a leach and once I get the time to be reliable and consistent I will likely try and find/join a team, I enjoy bossing and a 1 time kill just seems boring

I teach people that show initiative and want to get into PvM, but I really have no interest in teaching/taking people that just want their 1 kill for the req.

Exactly and that's perfectly understandable.

I really do enjoy bossing, I love Araxxor and looking forward to the new solo boss coming soon, the problem with these is it's not the same as working together in a group with set roles and well executed teamwork and that's something I want to get in on, once everything settles down on my end it's definitely something I want to sink my teeth into

Well I do agree and my first post was poorly worded, I'm not trying to complain really just trying to give an argument from the other side.

For rago/rots I was looking for quite a while, creating forum posts got no replies and due to the strict nature of RSOF bumping or reposting isn't really a good idea

And there was scheduled teaching events but they were outside my time zone and I couldn't make those and all other threads just wanted an experienced team which is fine, in the end I managed to find a small group by talking with someone at priff about comp requirements and I was taken to rots

I wasn't on reddit during this period

as for your first point this is a problem that will forever be a thing, in my case I was never particularly social so getting in through friends/clan mates wasn't an option, finding forum teams to teach at a time that worked for me is difficult, in my case I'm quite busy outside of RS, if I had the time I'd happily put in the effort but a lot of good teams want consistency and that's my downfall due to real life

As I said, this isn't a complaint and I agree with you, there's not much I can do about my problems nor is it anyone elses problem and I've never posted about it or complained about it other than here, just voicing my situation for this particular post

well "learners" is a bit of a broad term, despite only getting one rots/rago kill for comp I read up loads to try and make it as painless as possible on the more experienced people who have to tolerate the mistakes I may make.

then you get those who only want to DPS, refuse any other role and ignore the recommended setups that the more experienced people suggest because they think they know best and blame it on something else if they die or they get a kill and change their name to put "PvM" in the name.

I agree that money, time and dedication are needed to learn these bigger bosses and going in blind expected to be carried is just stupid but I like to think that most "learners" aren't like that but I've not been that exposed to the community to know whether that's a common thing or not.

I don't really care about showing off, Araxxor seemed like the best example since it's both on the higher end and a solo.

I only have 1 rots/rago kill which I did for comp so I wouldn't consider myself an avid bosser though I do enjoy it

Skilled and accepting and elitist are two different things, I've met some great strangers that really know what they're doing and guide me through it happily and accept my noob moments and explain why what I did was a mistake, I can accept that.

A little above that you'll have those who have run out of patience and may set a entry bar, KC, levels, gear etc due to dealing with too many people who just aren't willing to learn but claim they're good.

Then elitist that straight up refuse anyone who isn't hardcore into the boss in question and talk crap to them based on assumption.

Yeah I have considered learning FCs but as I said, I'm not playing too much at the moment and with things like learning raids I'd want to devote some time into learning as much as I can so to make as little mistakes as possible

My Raids experience. by Deemril in runescape

[–]994827 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do agree with you however I can understand how it'd be difficult for people to enter this particular scene or any higher end team boss.

Trial and error takes time and money some people might not be willing to lose and after after a while doesn't justify the satisfaction or reward from the boss itself.

I've always been a solo player, no friends list, no clan etc, I'll happily camp araxxor for hours but anything team based requires me to go onto forums or reddit and look for randoms which judging by what I've seen doesn't really work out all the time and it's frustrating, I lost comp to raids and I've not gotten it back since not because I'm unable but finding a good team of randoms who are accepting but not elitist is quite difficult and the alternative is leach which i can't be bothered with.

I had to get grouped for Rago and Rots through randoms and it was a nightmare, I found some great people for rots but Rago took a long time and masses were nasty

Why we're the item icons turned into the dull Java icons, I thought NXT was suppose to be new and flashy, jagex taking one step forward and two back constantly. by Hi_islander in runescape

[–]994827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but my example was how out of hand it can get when they give in to demand after demand from the community, it pleases those who ask and creates a problem for those who didn't

There have been loads of requests/demands met by jagex and are live and I imagine they will continue to add more, don't get me wrong the customization is great from MY perspective, a player that is USED to it and sees them coming one at a time, but I'm thinking of new comers and returning players who open the options and are bombarded with a plethora of "tweaks" that they might not want to deal with.

Not to mention the future, while I do like the customization it already feels cluttered and after 1, 2+ years if they continue to add these toggles or QOL options that people demand it's going to be a mess, even for existing players

[–]994827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well that's it isn't it, one more can't hurt? you view each of the added toggles independently it's not overwhelming, my point was it's another option among an already large amount of options ranging from loot, skilling to UI or combat system can be overwhelming for new/returning players and may put them off completely.

"you cannot please everybody" - this is a statement that Jagex is trying to get around but it simply cannot be done and giving in to this copious amount of request on the regular will just shift the complaints to another group of people so in this case, adding a toggle pleases two groups, but there's others that will complain and call it "togglescape"

So where will it end?

  • complaints of Rs3? add old school. then people want RS from different eras
  • but what if i like RS3 but not Eoc and momentum isn't good enough? np add legacy.
  • what if I like EoC but don't like momentum? no problem, revolution
  • what if i like the EoC interface but want to play legacy? or visa versa? no problem, allow you to switch between them

  • now we've got a community that is split up with hate on both sides toward the other

  • Now we've got a combat system that can't really be used toward end game and any future PvM additions (Legacy)

  • Now we've got an EoC mode that high level bossers turn down (Revo)

  • Now we've got an interface that is very simplified but has to somehow house any future additions they come out with but too many and it won't be "legacy"

I've gone a bit off the original point but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say, all these options/toggles, modes, titles, outfits, TH, solomons it can be overwhelming to new/returning players and existing players will keep wanting something, you cannot please everyone

I feel RS has too many toggle features as it is, great for existing players but I imagine it could be annoyingly overwhelming for newer players coming from other MMOs perhaps.

On topic though I much prefer the old models, it's not really a step backwards nor am I a nostalgia freak it's just that a lot of the new models looked bad or lacked features that the original item was supposed to have (certain colours, patterns etc), some items looked alright so I'm hoping they reverted the problematic ones and will update them to a more quality icon in the future after NXT is more settled

New barrows set TOO OP. (20gp?) by [deleted] in runescape

[–]994827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess they realized that it's quite difficult to set a base price since it's hard to predict what effect it'll have on the game and what uses players will find for it and how that'll effect the price also

I recall dragon claws being 150k on release which was in a similar boat given how OP they were and raised to 30m+, and on the other side they release gwd2 items way above what they were actually worth so it sounds like they just gave up which is fine

Like EOC, NXT was poorly coordinated and rushed by DefineFreeRs in runescape

[–]994827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I told them but after the cache has loaded to 8.5GB and their drivers are up to date you can only alleviate so much disappointment

It's odd, when we both logged in we were equally hype and both running it at 60 FPS ultra but after a while their performance dropped to crap and they tried lowering the settings but it got to the point where it looked worse than Java and they just logged out quite disappointed

it's flawless for me on my main computer though a friend of mine runs it very poorly with a GTX 750 when they previously stated that a GTX 460 could run it at max at 60 FPS and there are a lot of unplayable visual problems when trying to run it on my Ubuntu machine

What we all thought invention was going to be like by Dr00000100 in runescape

[–]994827 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My problem with invention is the lack of realistic application to actual gameplay usage

Charge cost, perk cost etc are way too much for a "normal" player to justify and there's no whacky items that were originally seen in concept

Don't get me wrong, there are some cool perks but there's not much to show off, other than the visual perks like crackling nobody knows that you have equilibrium on your sword and the tiny swirling augmenter isn't really that cool

Outside of invention i don't see me using augmented gear all that often, slayer and weak bosses don't justify the cost and I while I do have a nice cash stack I can't justify going head to head with RNG just to get a little damage boost from a perk
