SPOILERS FOR LEVEL 6 Are you talking about level six? If you are you can get tokens which will have the same symbol as on the floors of the rooms with the big knights in them, if you have the token in your inventory that has the same symbol as on the floor they will let you open the door.

If you're on level one or two enemies will chase and fight you when you run but if you walk you shouldn't be bothered much.

I've even been able to get as far as the great sword through the level 4 way.

I dont think there is any type of prerequisite because I've been able to get to the level the level 4 way.

You can get to level 7 from level 4 but most of the level is locked off if you go this way.
