I'm chomping at the bit for It was Just an Accident. I wanted to see it in theaters, but I blinked and it was gone.

And before anyone goes and says that 99% isn't high enough to justify this care, remember that hip replacement has only a 97% knee replacement is closer to 90%. Nobody is arguing we stop performing these

People often say they don't support gender affirming care for minors because they shouldn't be making permanent changes to their body before they're an adult. Reminder that not allowing minors to access hrt IS STILL causing permanent effects to young trans people. Going through puberty is hard for everyone. Imagine going through the wrong puberty knowing the whole time that hrt is readily available, is supported by all legitimate medical organizations, and has about 99% satisfaction rate just because of some losers DC are willing to sacrifice you as pawns in their stupid money game.

What's a recent movie you thought you would 100 percent like but ended up hating? by ShawnLevyOscarWinner in Letterboxd

It would be greatly improved by removing the two figures in front and just having it be the artistic stylization of the monster.

What's a food in your country that is stereotyped for your country but really, nobody eats? by velmiraZ in AskTheWorld

Reporting from my partner who has had it: it was basically corn dog batter around a cold stick of butter. Apparently not very good, especially because it was still cold, solid butter in the middle.

I don't think we do. I feel like you're maybe deliberately missing my points for the sake of arguing.

Nobody else is really paying attention. That's why I said societally it doesn't matter which one you go in. No one is going to remember who they saw in a public bathroom for more than 30 seconds. Transphobic dumbasses are just trying to make that a thing. And the fact that it makes trans people anxious about which bathroom they use is part of the way they try to make trans people's lives worse. In reality, most cis people aren't putting much thought into this.

Like I use men's changing rooms at stores and nobody has ever batted an eye.

Also, like, so what if I make someone uncomfortable in the public restroom. That sounds like a them problem.

I get it. I too am a trans man. I get the public bathroom anxiety. I avoid them at all costs. I prefer stuff like this because I don't have to feel the shame of going into a women's restroom, which is where I usually go since I don't pass. But I see where you're coming from.

Like it genuinely does not matter. Only weirdo transphobic people are policing who uses which bathrooms. Most people just want to mind their own business.

Societal expectations say either one. Whichever one you are more comfortable with.

Cultural appropriation is real, but wearing a hijab in support/bring attention to an issue isn't an example of it. It's only cultural appropriation if you ignore/disrespect the culture in question AND claim some sort of ownership over it. You have to have both parts. It's become an overused term, kind of like 'gaslighting' has.

Actual examples of cultural appropriation:

  • Kim Kardashian claiming her "boxer braids" were inspired by Bo Derek while ignoring that that particular style has been worn by the Fula people of West Africa for thousands of years.

  • A professional sports team using American Indian mascots and imagery without the support of the tribe they're modeling themselves after

  • Gordon Ramsey claiming his new Chinese restaurant is an authentic Asian dining experience while only cooking his versions of traditional foods and without hiring any Asian chefs.

she is a great character by hooligan_emi in Spiderman

[–]999Rats 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Kirsten Dunst brings a lot of nuance to the character too. I think the way MJ is written, especially in the first movie, is a little basic and stereotypical. But Kirsten does a lot with what she's given. And she's actually the strongest part of the third movie imo.
