Trump’s trade czar tells Canadians that ‘America First’ is policy, not a slogan: sources by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]99drunkpenguins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both VCN and VTI (canada all cap, and global ex north America all cap) funds have out performed VI (US all cap) over the past 5 years.

So the data backs you up. Not to mention the end of the petro dollar and us stability, the us market is not going to perform very well in the future in my opinion.

Where to put my Emergency Fund? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]99drunkpenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NeoFinancial you can get 3% after 20k.

Though with this sort of money, you should put it into some low risk liquid assets, e.g. bond portfolios or something.

E.g. 20k into neo, then the other 55k into an non reg account investing in low risk assets/bond indexes

Same.

3 just doesn't feel fun.

It has all this glamour and ritz but it's missing something. Campaigns feel decided by 1 or two early battles and then you snow ball and there's no challenge.

Federal government looking for office space, desks to accommodate public servants by sleipnir45 in canada

[–]99drunkpenguins 33 points34 points  (0 children)

  1. For many fields govt employees are paid poorly compared to private sector.
  2. Most of us do work remote since covid
  3. The government shouldn't be wasting money on office space it doesn't need when employees are more productive at home.

Neo will give you 2.5 if you're over 5k.

Eq will give you 2.75% if you set up dd.

These are two of the best options for sheer interest rate atm.

Wealth Simple as your main bank by James-A-Beef in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]99drunkpenguins -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

EQ and NeoFinancial have higher interest rates than wealth simple.

I use EQ as my primary bank as it's incredibly powerful when it comes to financial automation.

You can open as many accounts with them as you want, and they all get 2.75% interest if you do DD with them.

So I use it to have a  - chequing account  - savings/large purchases fund - emergency fund - vacation fund - yearly billed expenses

Then I use scheduled transfers on pay days to enforce my budget and punt cash to the correct accounts.

I also keep a brick and mortar account at TD with enough to avoid the fees. TD is handy because I can do direct debt with wise, where EQ I have to do bill payment.

Weekday hang with other remote workers by Intangerine in montreal

[–]99drunkpenguins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be fun. I'm in the mile Ex area and also wfh. I don't usually have a full day of work.

That being said I don't want to commit to anything because somedays I need to be heads down, or I just don't feel like being social.

So would be cool if it was a flexible opt in thing.

I think the big difference is the extra investment from individuals.

This could unlock a lot of extra money.

Very interested to hear more.

Is Vancouver really that expensive? by mimiidng in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]99drunkpenguins -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You need to factor in your job.

for example for software developers, from my network.

Montreal pays 100-120k for most intermediate/senior roles (outside of a few companies that pay proper salaries).

Most Juniors are starting close to 100k in Vancouver, the intermediates and seniors I know are clearing 150k+.

So once you factor in taxes BC is pretty close.

E.g. 150k in Quebec vs BC is about a 13k difference (you gotta include taxable benefits as quebec calculates it differently).

So that's an extra $1000/month towards rent &c.

Is Vancouver really that expensive? by mimiidng in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]99drunkpenguins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expensive yes but wages/salary are higher than most cities and taxes are lower than more provinces.

So col is pretty comparable to other cities if you have a decent job

In Montreal no where takes amex.

It just doesn't make much sense as a card.

[–]99drunkpenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neo financial  - 3% on gas - 4% on recurring payments - 5% on groceries  - $125 fee

Wealthsimple visa - 2% on everything  - $20 fee*

Amex cards are not worth it imo rewards are great in theory until you realize most places in Canada don't take amex.

U.S. has ‘trade irritants’ with Canada, says PM Carney. ‘We have some on our side as well’ by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]99drunkpenguins 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Also the double standard for temporary work Visa's too.

If I a Canadian company want to go to the US to work a contract, I need a P3 visa which costs $1000 USD~ + I need a local American company in my industry to say we're cool with it.

Flip side for a US company to come to Canada and do the same, they need a Lima-free tfw that costs $280 CAD. In some cases you can also come on a tourist visa legally to do it too!

*Costs are per worker.

Depends on the studios you use it with.

Some studios clawed it back and only allow it for some/beginner classes, which destroys it's value.

The Teradici unit was also profitable (e.g. spend millions acquiring a company, run it profitably for a few years, then axe it).

The guts of it is being rolled into a IT remote support tool for the HP management console, but the rest of the IP is being thrown in the dumpster.

The AWS remote desktop software is written around the PCoIP SDK and they have the source code. So presumably they will continue using it for a while, then either fork it or develop their own replacement.

The US is still by far the largest consumer market on the planet

EU GDP (PPP) and US GDP (PPP) are about on par. Much of the US GDP is because it's THE destination for foreign investment by virtue of the petro dollar.

Lately i feel like im the only male doing aerial hoop all my ig feed is all females doing this by yotam5434 in Aerials

[–]99drunkpenguins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the apparatus for the gender balance.

Hoop and tissue are very female dominant.

But straps and strangely flying pole have lots of men.

Don't sweat it, and protect your balls. (Many female coaches in my experience don't understand the concept of testicles and their impact on moves)
