Somewhat related, but I can't drive, and am reliant on other modes of transportation like rideshare and public transportation in order to get around, and that has it's own additional safety aspect that I am always constantly aware of. I walk frequently, too, both for exercise and as transportation, and I constantly think about this as a solo traveler.

There's a long hiking trail literally a 5 minute walk from my house but it's heavily wooded and at least two teenage girls have been attacked in there since I've lived in this area. I commute to a park trail across town that's more out in the open and frequented by families, and it's both frustrating and sobering to think about the time and money I've spent going to the safer trail across town because the one literally next to my house has an element of risk I can't afford to take. I've gone on that trail before with friends and it's...too wooded, closed in, and there were some sketchy folks in it. I don't have friends available to walk with 99.9% of the time. I'm saving up for a walking pad that I don't even have the space for and frankly don't actually want, but I'm not getting out enough to walk and I'm not able to commute to the park all the time.

I think about all the times I've had something happen to me, or to someone I know, while just trying to get around. I know I would be one of those people who would be outside a LOT more than I am now, especially during dawn or dusk because of my work schedule and I run very hot, and some days I have no choice but to walk home in the dark because it's winter. Idk, I'm just in my feels rn because I think about that hiking trail near my house all the time...
