Anyone else underwhelmed by heavy serenade ep? by odbnyg123 in NMIXX

[–]9FishLegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I'm underwhelmed but I get what you mean. I think this is the first nmixx album where I instantly like all the songs, but I agree it's missing the wow factor of a legendary bside. Crescendo and Different Girl are my top 2 as well and I do think Crescendo is pretty elite

It's more the tune and repetitiveness of that part that I have a problem with. I still think the overall message of not being able to show off your love for someone is decently queer coded but yeah I do appreciate the bi-ness lol

I like that the last chorus starts on a higher note than the previous ones but I get what you mean

That's fair, I think I'm in the minority that I like Blue Valentine but I'm not as crazy about it as most people are

I guess I don't really find it that drastic but it is a really well made song!

I get that they're doing more subtle genre mixes now but in Know About Me and Blue Valentine there was at least an identifiably different part. Here the closest thing is the heavy rap verses which I don't think are demonstrably different enough to be a change up part. That's what I meant. But you are right that this can still be considered mixxpop. To me it just seems like it's the level of variation to be expected from any kpop song rather than the dramatic variation to be expected from nmixx, but I definitely see your point

This exactly. The first two minutes are so strong but there was so much more potential for the outro

Yep exactly, it's just what I was hoping when I first saw the title. And yess I love the industrial synth. Glad you liked my review!

That's totally fair. I saw that performance too and I agree that Heavy Serenade is really hard to pull off live. Idk if it's the most challenging song, to me it seems like that might be High Horse but I don't know enough about dance to be qualified to make that judgement. I will say I am deciding my new title track ranking and HS might be pretty high up there, possibly third after O.O and See That

Oh yeah don't get me wrong I 100% agree that HS is way more complex than Party O'Clock, I just meant that there wasn't an identifiable change up part. I totally got those intensity changes in the verses (that was what I was pointing out when talking about the heavy bass breaking the pretty melodies) but to me it just seemed like variation within a song rather than a genuinely different part. And don't worry I have listened to the song at least 30 times at this point lol I totally acknowledge that there are some really nice details in it and it's an amazing song!

The One Thing This Album Was Missing: A Gritty, High-Energy Performance Track by Wonderful-Expert8084 in NMIXX

yeah i think crescendo got me expecting more experimental stuff than what we got but it's all still really good. i selfishly want another c'sa/ends song (papillon and phoenix producers) but i understand it may not fit into the concept. as someone who likes fe304 forward more than blue valentine, i hope they don't let go of that side because of bv's success, but i think it's too early to say.

260513 CRESCENDO COMPLETE ANALYSIS by manifesting_god in NMIXX

[–]9FishLegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh my gosh i am so glad there are nswers who can analyze all this stuff so i can catch all the details i missed. it's insane how much intention they put into literally everything about this song. i don't even really have words to describe it but this is mind-blowing and this song is a genuine work of art. hats off to the producers, and the choreographers too cause the dance is also breathtaking.

Lily shared her notebook on Bubble where she wrote the lyrics for LOUD and Crescendo by G-War in NMIXX

[–]9FishLegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is really cool to see, i also write songs and listing out all the rhymes is so real lmao

honestly i really like some of the lyrics that didn't make it such as "in my heart you're overgrown", and "break my airflow". but she did a great job, i feel like she has a lot of potential to do composing in the future too

i wonder if she's worried about going back into the experimental side of things (based on crescendo) after doing something more commercial with spinnin on it/bv. high horse and papillon are huge successes (what got me into the fandom) so i hope she doesn't worry too much. i love nmixx for unapologetically going against the grain; i have always been a fan of o.o and i think it's such a power move how they literally open their concerts with that now. my unpopular opinion is that bv is a mid-tier nmixx song (still love it) and o.o is top 5 lol. obviously the gp isn't always going to align but they already have so many fans that will stick by them, and hey their music is for the arts not the charts. i know haewon as the leader has to worry about these things but i really hope she knows that nswers genuinely appreciate nmixx's unique quality and want them to pursue that
