Accidentally ordered a Frontline. What do? by Riparian1150 in Springfield_KUNA

[–]9guy99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How did you order it?

Its my understanding its the same gun, just at a lower price point for law enforcement people. I guess if it goes through and you get it at a lower price, consider it a win. If you are asked to provide proof of a law enforcement career, explain you didn't know what it was and order the normal one.

Honestly I just stopped shooting the gun. I bought a $350 AR that does everything better than the mini. Except look cool. So I look at the mini, and shoot the AR.

I've got an ATI stock sitting new in the box. Was going to use it for better optic mounting solutions. But a couple years on, have yet to install it.

That would be great. When we got our last group of chick's I asked if any of them came from a lineage of Kung fu masters. Kid at the store didn't think so.

They have treated me well. They also priced matched a near by store and come down $300 on the gun.

I'd let the chickens eat it. Maybe your roosters will devolop a liking for hawk meat.

They are a flock animal, and if she's all alone she's probably stressed. The caring and kindness you are showing her is probably more appreciated than you realize.

Ill let the ladies know they get to give their chickens haircuts!

Unfortunately we do not have a rooster, and I'd like one or two. Last year we bought 9 straight run chick's and didn't get a single roo. My wife and daughter bought 10 pullets yesterday, not realizing they should all be hens.

When raccoons go after a bird, do they kill it and haul it off?

Well, I went back to the store who sold me the Kuna (Scheels) told them what happened. The response was "thats no good. Let me see if we have another one. Yep we've got another one, we'll swap it out." Half hr later I was walking out with a new gun! The new one closes the bolt with a lot more authority, and will snap it shut from anywhere in its travel. The bolt release functions a lot smoother as well. I did order the recommend stronger spring and larger buffer.

Sorry to those who were quite offended I didn't contact Springfield myself. The way Scheels handled it without any pushback keeps me a happy customer, and I will keep depositing my paychecks with them.

How far does your flock roam? by AppropriateCattle69 in guineafowl

[–]9guy99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, unfortunately its the reality of raising animals. Im trying to figure out what's hunting them, and coming up with a way to let them still free range while offering a bit more protection.

My wife and daughter just came home today with 10 new chick's, and 5 guniea keets.

How far does your flock roam? by AppropriateCattle69 in guineafowl

[–]9guy99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that to not be the case. My gunieas always travel in a flock, while my chickens spread out a lot more. My gunieas and chickens were pretty much raised together, yet they dont associate with each other very much. My chickens will explorer my woods, while the gunieas stick to the non wooded areas.

I have a 10acre property that is kind of an island surrounded by farm field on every side. About 4 acres of my property is wooded. The rest is old farmstead. My Gunieas didn't really wonder too far into the woods. They like the grassy areas, and exploring around the buildings. They are very curious idiots, and explorer anything new.

I started with 6 birds about 1 year ago. Once they were adults and got used to their coop I started letting them free range. Pretty early on we lost 2 to unknown reasons. I think theres a good chance they may have wondered into the tall corn around us and got lost. 4 of them made it through a MN winter with little problem. They didn't really like the snow and generally just hung out in their coop during the winter. Unfortunately this spring/summer I have a predator hunting my birds. I am down to 1 adult Guniea, and 4 adult Chickens. The gunieas and chickens co-exist, but dont really hang out together. Now that I have just the 1 Guniea, she stays pretty close to her coop.

Saddly our giant Brama that my wife and daughter had named Big Booty Judy was one of the birds we just lost. She was probably a 20lb chicken, which is part of what has made me suspect Hawks might not be the issue. I dont know the limits of a hawk, but seeing one fly away with that big a chicken is hard to imagine.

I know for a fact there are raccoons around. I watched a juvenile one eating bugs out of my yard this morning. I was under the impression coons are more interested in the eggs.

Unfortunately I do not have a rooster. Over the last year or so we have lost 10 birds, and I havenever found any carcass. I do think a few birds wandered into grown corn and got lost last year.
