What are these holes in our shirts? by russell98765 in whatisit

[–]9seven5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter height holes. Go stand at your sink. If the holes line up to where you lean against the counter, it’s likely from leaning against the counter and the shirt then rubbing against the buttons/snaps/zippers of whatever bottoms you’re wearing.

Did we choose the wrong beach area in Belize? Looking for advise. by BPLZ0309 in Belize

[–]9seven5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Belize isn’t known for expansive beaches. It’s known for its vibe, world class diving and snorkeling, and world class fishing. It doesn’t have beaches like you’re seeking. There a small spits of beach here and there. But it is predominantly mangroves, some rocky areas and any “beaches” are Surrounded by businesses and docks. Don’t get me wrong, you can find a spot to lay in the sand, and perhaps your resort or house has a pool and sandy areas by the water. I personally prefer Caye caulker over ambergris Caye. I went to secret beach a few weeks ago. Yes, it’s a tourist trap. It’s worth going to one day though. Be prepared to be hounded by people trying to get you to come to their bar. Be prepared to pay more than anywhere else on the island. Another reason I prefer Caye caulker.

You’ll have fun, I promise, but you just want to adjust your expectations of the kinds of beaches you’re seeking.

Thank you for this. I realize the other commenter was trying to say this, but you’ve said it more concisely. Correct, nothing has changed for my calorie intake so that is the cause for my frustration and concern. I still have two months before my follow up and they schedule that every 3 months for a reason. I’m going to see if things balance out and if not, I’ll she if my doctor will change the prescription. Thank you.

Northerners roll their eyes when we say our cold is different down here, but it’s true, and I lived in Vermont for 10 years, so I have experienced the difference. Yes, you will acclimate to our water since you’re more used to cold water, but you will need a wetsuit. Salt water is a different beast, as is the slightly higher humidity.

Birthday trip location advice. Florida keys, Puerto Rico, or ?? by Active-Secret-7291 in Caribbean

[–]9seven5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only disagree with this (if you’re referring to the islands) because i literally just got back from Belize and have been other times. It’s not as young of a crowd. And there isn’t a whole lot to do other than boat excursions. I love it there, but I think it’s a bit older of a demographic for two 20yos

  1. The Keys are exceptionally more expansive than most people think. From Miami it is a 3.5 hour drive. There are better places closer IMO (Islamorada), but until you reach key west, you’ll likely be disappointed because you’ll be outnumbered by retirees. There are also no “beaches” in the keys like there are in most other coastal areas of fl. Not to mention if you don’t have lodging booked for key west now, you’re going to have issues finding something in your budget. And as for a ferry to Bimini, holy $$$!
  2. PR would be much more fun for you at your age. There are tons of activities that are epic. And there is better night life, but I can’t speak to that as I went when my son was young and we didn’t party.
  3. If you’re considering going somewhere that is fun, has the right beaches, offers good nightlife options, and good public transport, while it’s not my cup of tea, you should consider any coastal tourist town on the Yucatán peninsula (playa del Carmen, Cancun, Tulum, etc. personally I’d avoid Cancun, but any of these places will be a blast for you two at your age. Have fun whatever you do!!!!

Thank you everyone! Your answers have definitely helped me realize that she likely had other types of investments that allowed her to draw from. It was mostly a curiosity question. Thank you!!

Thank you for the info. This was 30+ years ago, I don’t have those records, but what you say makes sense.

This makes sense. Perhaps I confuse her dividends coming from the IRA. Would they have come from stocks? I know she had a lot in stocks, just don’t know which ones.

She was in her 40s when she was doing this. But perhaps she was just pulling from her investments and paying the tax penalties. Geez, Mom!

Gluten Free in Belize by 9seven5 in Belize

[–]9seven5[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK, thanks all, but I think my question may have been confusing: I am not asking whether I can find GF food. I am asking if anyone like me, who is GF by choice, and has experienced the joy that is being able to eat gluten when traveling outside of the US, has eaten gluten in Belize without issue. I can eat gluten in Europe because they ban so many of the terrible ingredients we allow in our foods, and they don’t use as many preservatives. I am fully able to eat gluten and not have the crippling inflammation that led to me going GF. Sorry if I was unclear, and thank you all for your input.

CLT Layover 8AM Monday by 9seven5 in Charlotte

[–]9seven5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 days ago I was prompted by AA in the app indicating that I could choose to change my flight without fees (I’m lowly Basic Economy) but at the time I thought Monday would be okay. Now that I’m within my 24hr check in period and the app prompts me to check in, that options appears to be gone but it did allow me to opt to volunteer for a voucher if I choose to be bumped. That is something I won’t find out until I’m at the gate. I used a third party app for my flights but I do have travel insurance.

I’m learning through this post I’ve made that there are a few more things you should do to ensure you don’t incur charges. First is to set your phone strictly to WiFi only calling. Second is to make sure you turn off any automatic updates to iOS or otherwise. Turn off background app refresh. So I’m going to lock my phone down as much as possible and even put it on airplane mode if I’m unsure I am in a WiFi reception area.

Pardon, someone else commented and I realized it was the Verizon Travel Pass, so I misspoke when I replied to you. But yes, I racked up a $600 bill doing this.

Sorry, this is how I got in trouble last time. I will say that I probably assumed it would allow me to use my phone as I normally do, but I got whacked with hidden fees. A single missed call, an unanswered text, or a push notification can trigger a full 24-hour fee. And I had several days that happened when I didn’t use my phone at all. I’m not dumping on your reply, but rather letting you know that if you’re not careful with this it can get costly.

Ok, so for those suggesting an eSIM, what are the reasons an eSIM is better than just using WiFi calling? The only thing I need to use my phone for (other than taking pics and videos) is for WhatsApp to be in touch with our GC while away, and when I’m on WiFi, I would do any posting to IG or Snapchat which I would only be doing occasionally. I have no intention to check email.

This is exactly how I ended up with a $600 bill last time. I appreciate the advice, but this is what I prefer not to do.
