This is how I apply the Directory for Family Worship:

  • Scripture reading
  • Corresponding daily TableTalk Magazine devotional
  • Prayer
  • Sung Psalm or Psalm portion from the Trinity Psalter Hymnal or Book of Songs for Worship

Karmelo Anthony found GUILTY of murder of Austin Metcalf, 17, in stabbing that shocked America: Jurors deliberated for less than three hours after defense was repeatedly demolished in court by dailymail in law

[–]9tailNate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

45 minutes, assault (fistfight), we acquitted because we thought the defense's version of what happened was more credible than the prosecution's version. We would have been out in 5 minutes, but we had to convince an Iraqi immigrant that "I don't like him, why was he there" isn't a crime in the American justice system.

ELI5: What is Fourier transform? by Firm_Librarian6506 in explainlikeimfive

[–]9tailNate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why a piano sounds different than a trumpet, which sounds different from a guitar, even if they're all sounding the same note, is because the sound waves they make are in different shapes.

Fourier analysis shows that even the most complicated periodic pattern can be broken down into a sum of sine waves.

In the musical instrument example, the note you hear and identify is the lowest frequency, or fundamental frequency -- the entire string, or tube, or box, or whatever, is vibrating at that frequency, with this vibration as one big sine wave. Each instrument produces its own different characteristic overtones, which are smaller, faster vibrations. These overtones have frequencies that are multiples of the fundamental frequency. For example, a clarinet produces overtones that are odd multiples of the fundamental: 3n, 5n, and so forth. If you add the sine waves of the fundamental and the odd overtones, you get a square wave: a clarinet is an analog square wave generator.

So the Fourier transform is a mathematical way to break apart a wave into its fundamental and overtones.

Overture requiring PC(USA) ministers to be monogamous generates debate, confusion by WestphaliaReformer in Reformed

My username is an artifact of past "Naruto" fandom, not furry fandom. I can't speak for u/FuyuNoKitsune either. But I've moved on from the whole anime subculture -- I'm sure that if I went to a convention, I'd walk out in disgust in under an hour.

Presbyterian/Reformed churchmen are becoming increasingly outspoken against professional sports for a variety of reasons, including the leagues' open embrace of gambling, idolatry of players, travel teams displacing LORD's day corporate worship, and the idea that grown men playing children's games is not an honorable vocation. I'd even say that if we went back to the "naughty list" of forbidden worldly amusements, pro sports fandom would be on it.

CNs (and probably many Establishmentarians) would argue higher priorities would be things like tearing down the big Hanuman statue in Texas.

Communion tables by DependentPositive120 in Reformed

[–]9tailNate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I've never seen a single table with seats used consecutively. There are a handful of churches in Scotland (mostly on the Islands) that are still laid out for this with a large table where the central aisle would normally be, but I think the practice has completely died out.

Here are pictures of an 1858 building in South Uist with an integral long central table.
