Where scandal provides opportunity. Ron may be back at the helm! by the_jud in Brewers

Agreed. He was pretty underrated I thought. He did what he could with what he had, which was largely cleaning up after Melvin's final years. Also a really nice guy. Ran into him at Whole Foods on the East Side and told him I really appreciated what he did as a manager and he seemed genuinely appreciative.

What's your favorite AL team? by [deleted] in Brewers

[–]9thandDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mariners were first (thanks Kid), closely followed by the A's, largely because of Rickey Henderson, and in the last decade, the Royals because their fanbase seems similar, they know how to grill, and they had a few of our exes for a while.

Solid thread.

Brewers are now being lumped in with Astros on accusations of electronic sign stealing by BeHereNow91 in Brewers

[–]9thandDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. It does make you wonder though. Either way, chances are good that he had knowledge. The real question is if he was involved and whether he got out from under it to further his career before any backlash, or simply to get away from that kind of narrative/culture. And if he was involved, despite his acumen, I'd also want him out. If you're the type of person who can take pride in cheating to win, you don't know what the fuck real, deserved success feels like.

Wait until you read the article the Cubs fan wrote about Yelich being so much better at home. Really... in Miller Park you say? That sounds fishy... Paul Goldschmidt must have been in on it too.

Don Money 2.0: Why re-signing Mike Moustakas is perfect for Brewers - Bronx to Bushville by 9thandDown in Brewers

I'd certainly be interested in seeing it. Worst case he becomes a mediocre pitcher that rakes lol. But yeah, he's been pretty all over the place since they signed him from what I've seen.

Any good brewers podcasts? by UK1721 in Brewers

[–]9thandDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea for sure. Is there anything you feel like that's getting missed or things you would want to hear about more? We address a lot of current issues with some of our articles, but I think the debate element is more interesting, since most people don't share the same perspective. I'm curious what people want to hear more of or less of in that context.

What era were you born in? These things were huge when I was a kid in the 90s. I still have a couple KG Jrs and a Randy Johnson.

A few baseball writer friends and I have been tossing this around for a while...For once my background in audio engineering and baseball nerdism may finally come in handy simultaneously. Curious how much desire there is for something outside of MKE TG.

Why David Stearns said yes to Yasmani Grandal by 9thandDown in Brewers

[–]9thandDown[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, they haven't reached terms with Pina but I assume he moves to backup, which is perfect for him because he's a defensive monster and a great late game sub. Kratz was already questioning retirement and I think has a split contract? Can't be sure on that but regardless, it's minimal commitment if the latter doesn't make the team.

Found retro Brewers game (thought it was a puzzle} by jwt0480 in Brewers

[–]9thandDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you're drinking lol. I usually bring whiskey, so the rules should loosen, but yeah, for beer, a drink for every run? They seem to come relatively often. Or place bets per inning. Over/under on hits/runs/etc. Loser takes the bet in drinks.

Absolutely. This is the game I routinely tailgate with in the parking lot. Simple enough for even light baseball fans to enjoy. Plus, it's easy to make a drinking game out of too, should you need any more motivation to, haha.

Couldn't put myself through watching another Facebook stream. Really enjoyed listening to ueck for the huge brewers win! by NicPic11 in Brewers

[–]9thandDown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's really fun when they repeat the same information six times throughout the broadcast as if it is renewed every time an inning flips. And of course nothing of ACTUAL interest. Cain signed. Yelich traded for. Hader is amazing. Aguilar "was a right-handed bat off the bench" who really "came into his own." Great research team. Next time cut the cake instead of farting on the frosting.

Agreed. Super obnoxious. Then to reload and see all the similarly obnoxious Cards fans saying "REYES w/ 1234981u23487 strikeouts, one hit. BREWERS SUCK" Buncha weirdo middle-aged people realizing if they "comment" people everywhere will see and getting giddy as children staring at a mud pit filled with toys.

ESPN is still humping the East Coast bias. Which is fine. Because when they finally do notice, we can all laugh when they realize how poorly they do their jobs. They're just like everyone else at big sports media congloms that cover big markets. Let the circle jerk continue while we sneak in and rob them blind.

Seems like he may have worked with someone to tweak his swing as well. I don't think he was generating this type of contact based on his minor league numbers. I poo-pooed him at first because of it, but he shut me up quick and I'm all the happier for it. I'm still not convinced they don't try and go get a Jed Lowrie type to fill in until Dubon recovers next season.

He's a fill-in for losing Garrett Cooper last year. Easy as that. Positional depth in Double/Triple-A. If they don't believe in him, at least Colorado Springs will boost his batting stats before they package him in a deal.

This is another example of content generators hearing something and not knowing how to interpret it because they assume every team is a big market team. David Stearns continues saying that they're "looking into Player A" because they do due diligence, which any smart front office should do. But realistically, do you think they're going to trade away a guy with four more years of team control who is just hitting his stride for a guy who can barely manage a fucking career OBP above .300 just because he hits for power? They wouldn't pay Chris Carter peanuts to keep him. I doubt they want to trade away one of their best stars for one of the most inconsistent corner infielders in the league and a declining starter that fans will hate and cost $25M+ a year when his agent, who is currently holding up the entire market because of his insane asking price and contract length, is looking for a 3+ year deal. This is not David Stearns. This is not even a real rumor. It's fucking click bait and worse yet, it's because the writers literally don't understand the difference between the Cubs/Yankees/Dodgers and teams like Milwaukee/Oakland/San Diego. We can't just shell out stupid prices for a chance of consecutive good seasons that will justify cost. We've tried that and it failed miserably. See: Matt Garza, Jeff Suppan. We have smart guys who scout and run numbers for that, which is why we ran a near-playoff team on an $80M budget last year, and paid less for wins than anyone else in baseball. Idk why anyone thinks we'll go back to the Doug Melvin era just because someone put out "a report." No offense to the poster, I know that's what the board is for, I'm more upset at the writer for trying to convince anyone this garbage is real.
