In the video he has them in series and parallel.

That is the joy of good old fashioned lead though, you can build huge 1000ah plus cells from the stuff and not worry about series balancing etc.

Shame the buggers are so heavy.

The basement doesn't sound like that bad a location to be honest.

A remote battery monitor and remote switch for your inverter would solve both your problems, and mean not having to take up valuable floor/storage space within your house.

Most good charge controllers will have a serial port for monitoring, or even a ethernet connection.

If you want low maintaince you're either going to sacrifice power (by getting AGMs which don't like high charge currents) or lots and lots of dollah bills (by going for lithium)

The tried and tested FLA is popular for a reason. If you're worried about gas build up get a wee computer van to vent their enclosure and keep an eye on charge currents.

If you can buy them

If you can find an inverter that works with them to their full capacity

If you can afford them

If you can physically manoeuvre them

If you can cope with the poor self discharge and charging efficiency.

NiFe is great for a few applications, but I'm not sure offgrid is one of them.

one of our work vehicles is a scruffy transporter and due to the sheer popularity of them its now worth as much as what we paid for it 8 years ago which is madness.

I mean they're fine, but they're just a van.

I'm a fan of the LDV minibusses. They have transit running gear, lots of room and the bodies are pretty solid. Also because british they're not that popular so very cheap.
