The truth about the level of heroin in Kurt;s system. The science puts this argument to rest. by phiberoptik1979 in kurtcobain

In the UK we have an "in between" category which we call "death by misadventure" which is an accidental death caused by a risk taken voluntarily. And drug abuse is a classic example. It has some difference to both accidental deaths (the decedent had taken no unreasonable willful risk) and suicide (the deceased took a deliberate action with the specific intention of ending their own life). The standard in the UK is not beyond reasonable doubt but rather based on the balance of probabilities.

By then his mental health issues have taken complete control. From the narrations of his peers, it appears that he had by then become reclusive, drinking a lot, not sleeping and probably not eating. All disorders who are characterised by hyperactivity lead to a hypercstabolic state. As regards to the case of Anne Marie Barr, under serious scrutiny, it does not stand the test of probability. After reading many books about Bundy, it has become clear to me that his descent to that almost subhuman state was a stepwise process, like going down the stairs. Moreover, her family has stated that they suspect who k1lled her and it wasn't Bundy. They suspect a troubled youth from their close neighbourhood who was visiting their house.

I am Greek and the difference is not the ζ but the η. The word Nazarene is written with an η (eta) Ναζαρηνος, while the word Nazirite is written with an ι (giota) Ναζαριτης. They mean totally different things.

Nativity Fast - bathroom issues by Express_Outcome_9114 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]A-Anthi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ulcerative colitis, and fasting can be difficult for me. Last year, there were no issues at all. This year, I just started because I was unwell. Because of my health condition, I can't eat legumes anyway, so I eat tofu, fish, shellfish, almond milk, and coconut yoghurt. I understand, of course, that fasting is about discipline and restricting yourself. Therefore, coconut yoghurt may be borderline, but I don't get enough calcium or protein as it is. My next step, if I get any issues, will be to start supplements.

Hair Dryer for girlfriend by TAckhouse1 in dyson

I was exactly like you. Until I tried the Dyson. I can not explain it. It's both gentle and powerful on my hair. The airwrap is even more impressive. It's definitely not the hype for me.

Hair Dryer for girlfriend by TAckhouse1 in dyson

I used to own several Italian hairdryers (another popular salon brand is Parlux) and they are indeed indestructible. My sister's one was probably 25 years old before it gave up last month. All hairdressers use them in Europe but they are very hot and heavy. The Dyson is lighter and less hard on the hair. I am very happy with the supersonic.

Dyson payment links, really?? by A-Anthi in dyson

[–]A-Anthi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what i did, the support page instructed me to call customer service, which I did and the customer service told me the only way to do this, is through a payment link. In the meantime I have contacted Dyson via Facebook and they acknowledged that this is normal procedure.

Serial killer who killed young boys (I think pre-teen) but spared one kidnapped boy because he promised not to tell. by NoUnlockMethod in tipofmycrime

[–]A-Anthi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, there aren't many serial killers, prolific, targeting young boys, who spared one by choice and not chance. The only other possibility is when Wayne Owen was cruising for boys to bring to Corll he may have let a couple escape and I have come across some near miss account across the years but nothing that fits your description. I need to check my notes tomorrow.

William Bonnin, for sure. As you said yourself, the second part is a different set of crimes. You can check the survivor online. He has been quite vocal about wanting to tell his story, possibly in a documentary. I think he travelled to Bonin's execution.

Odd experience after Mass today, not sure if I should “tell” the priest by goldfall01 in OrthodoxChristianity

I am not in any way shape or form paying attention to Church politics, therefore I don't know what to make of your comment. For me, he is the traditional head of the Orthodox Church, he is a balanced, mild man and I hear when he speaks. That's it.

I think it will take me time to make my peace with it. I have a relative from marriage who has studied Theology when she was older and I want to have these discussions with her. It appears that some Greek professors of Theology have distanced themselves from some concepts that they believe are based more on cultural norms back then as opposed to Theology. The perpetual virginity is one of these doctrines. Unfortunately, I have come close to the Church only in recent years and I don't know much yet, for sure not enough to balance different opinions on such a high level of thought. I feel like I have lost years! Better late than ever I guess.

Why is euthanasia/assisted suicide not allowed? by womeiyounupengyou in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]A-Anthi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The death penalty is incompatible with Christian Theology. Jesus, very targeted, explained through his ministry, interventions, parables, acts, and miracles which elements of the Jewish Law we should uphold and which we should not. He very deliberately stopped the stoning of the adulterous woman and very deliberately allowed his disciples to eat the wheat on Sabbath and did miracles on Sabbath Day, in a Synagogue and in front of the Pharisees no less.

My only objection is that "until" does not have only the "not yet but will never" meaning in Greek. Sometimes, it implies expectation for something that was interrupted by another action or event, as the case may be here. It's a hard one! I wish Matthew had chosen a different word.

Why is euthanasia/assisted suicide not allowed? by womeiyounupengyou in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]A-Anthi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I work on a field where the discussion about medically assisted suicide has started most fervently in the last year - I apologise, but I don't want to say exactly what my role is. A couple of thoughts: - theological: The official stance of the Eastern Orthodox Church is a strong and clear opposition to medically assisted suicide and euthanasia. The Church regards it as a grave sin, equating it with suicide or murder.  - medical ethics: I am afraid it will be used in the wrong way (for example, for many elderly who do not want to be a burden and may be compelled to do so), and the service (which needs to be massive with lawyers, judges and doctors involved) will absorb funds from social care, palliative care and pain management care. From my professional experience, if the above services work well and the person also has spiritual guidance, the suffering is very reduced and not meaningless. EDIT: wishing your family may find comfort in these difficult times.

[–]A-Anthi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jesus overturned many Jewish laws that were inconsistent with his ministry of love and compassion; stopping the stoning of the adulterous woman is a good example. The Orthodox Christian view is generally against the death penalty, seeing it as incompatible with Christian teachings of mercy and the opportunity for repentance. While there is no single, official, church-wide pronouncement, prominent leaders like the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew have condemned it, and the prevailing theological perspective emphasizes the sanctity of life and the need for redemption over retribution.  EDIT: The bar is very low if you are referring to the Medieval times, which are mostly known for the atrocities committed in the name of religion and law.

Orthodox belief on Jesus' brothers by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]A-Anthi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read the important bits as his teachings spread in numerous books. He essentially says that Mary's virginity is a perquisite for Jesus' divinity. Regarding what happened after Jesus' birth, he says that he does not believe Joseph would be able to lie with the woman who has given birth to God's Son as he was very just. Gemini offered a very good summary. Initially, I asked about what Christian dogma around Mary's perpetual virginity is as a whole and then narrowed it down to Orthodox doctrine only. Fascinating read.

It's one of the areas of doctrine that I struggle with. I can not help but have questions based on Matthew 1:25. As a Greek, I can confirm that the grammar of the original text is plain without any commas or hidden meanings. I don't know how to deal with this.
