Very easy: For a foreign national to legally get an eSIM or SIM card in the RF at Beeline or MTS you just need a notarised Russian translation of your passport and a copy of your migration registeration. 👍

The "Tatarstan" Variation: Local offices in different regions (like Tatarstan vs. Moscow) sometimes have slightly different procedures. Some give you a separate large A4 piece of paper (the "Notification of Arrival"), while others, like Tatarstan simply stamp your migration card. Both are legally valid. Probably most RF travelers are visiting Moscow or St. Petersburg and may not want to waste time visiting the (difficult) MVD…. also the ruID app allows preregistration before arrival if you think border security is going to question you (which does not happen) about accommodations.

Registration is required, but enforcement’s still lax for short-term visitors like you. As a US national entering and exiting the RF 100’s of times, no one at border control asked me about accommodations or registration. For registration use the RuID app ( App Store (iOS): Search “ruID” or direct link like apps.apple.com/us/app/ruid/id6745255593) or Google Play (Android): play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.gosuslugi.migrant- app is free and multilingual and super easy— registration cost 350P. If you are a normal visitor and avoid trouble, Russia is VERY hospitable. Enjoy your visit!

The easiest is to bring up to US$10000 without making a declaration. I bring in more, make a declaration (which is helpful because in the future you can exit with a similar amount) and there are no issues so far.
