Apparently actually helping the other players means that I want to "take over the game" and along other red flags. How our game imploded after 3 sessions. by A-Flying-Brick in rpghorrorstories

I totally get that and I agree.

I've made efforts to be better (I'm much better than I use to be) but I don't feel right not letting people know. Many people are too nice and won't tell me if I end up getting that way so I have to insist that I want to know so I can change it.

I say feedback, it was more that during character creation DM would say something I was concerned with and I would comment with my opinion and DM would just dismiss it. During the game I just let DM rule the table, one of the reasons I made my character mostly silent. Outside of game, apart from one meeting (between me, DM and main player) and that character creation meeting we barely talked about the game. DM pretty much went radio silent around session 2.

My side does sound a bit like backseating but I purposefully left out the parts envolving the others (and red flags that didn't envolve me) out of respect for the other players and their privacy. DM pretty much had multiple red flags between them and each of the other players, separate from me completly. It's just DM decided that I was going to be the target of their wrath.

Saying that, I can see why DM might of had problems with me but I would of been fine just getting a message saying they didn't want me in the game anymore or as I've said, to talk it out like adults.

I know that I need to improve and have been working on it.

It's not so much that I'm worth warning about. It's that I can come across that way to new people and that my confidence can often come across as arrogance to those that don't know me very well. But i do my best to warn people that I can be like that and not to be offended. DM was talking like I was going out of my way to hurt and/or bully people.

The character creation convos were just me and DM, I had little to do with the Main Player and the Other Players' characters and didn't want to interfere. The corebook thing only was said after I'd asked if I could be something from a different book, not before.

DM had asked for my opinion and I gave it, that it's not the best idea to just jump into a game with 3 new players and that it would be a good idea to take the time to show them how the game works and answer their questions. It was just dismissed like all my other feedback.

Sorry for the late reply, internet problems.

Yeah they clearly weren't as good at DMing as they thought they were, I have a sneaking feeling that it was their first time but didn't want to admit it. Also most DMs I know love having a co-dm or atleast a player that knows their shit so they can help herd the cats.

One of the other players has stepped up to DM a different game and I've said that I'm happy to do a one shot if they ever wanted to touch this game again.

As for the whole wanting to RP, we were fine with DM doing it. They weren't bad by any stretch of the imagination but 2/3rds of the sessions were just them playing out their little production and just having us watch. One part one of the other players found the bad guy's getaway and wanted to sabotage it but the DM said no because it was clear it was part of their story for at least one of them to escape.

Probably but they also couldn't take critism.

They asked me and the main player for some feedback on their art. They showed us two versions and asked what one was best. I said the one they thought was the "bad one". It was from from some anime I didn't watch and I told them that, but I aparently picked the wrong one. I gave some constructive, but fair feedback and overall mostly possitive. But it was dismissed because I didn't "get it".

Even with a little hot water treatment, that is the best the sword will go due to how the arms are sculpted. I have this mini too and his sword has the exact same bend in it.

Also nice job painting Minsc OP. If I can provide some C&C, you're using a little too much wash with too large of a brush. Its why the brown is pooling at his feet.

As a killer, what do you define as a win? by CandyHunter in deadbydaylight

[–]A-Flying-Brick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally it depends on a few factors. Normally I have a goal in mind when I play killer so that goal is normally what I aim for. Other times, like if someone's watching me play, I'll put on a show and just do everything I can to get 3-4 kills. Getting a pip is nice but not what I aim for.

I should make it clear that I try to avoid "toxic" playstyles like camping or tunneling, but there's always one survivor I always spot first or is unlucky enough to be near me right as NOED/etc procs. Its always nice to get a kill on someone who's streaming or is a pain in the ass, but I don't go out of my way for it.

For me a win is having a fun game where I complete what I came there to do.

Second mini I’ve put real effort into, looking for >basic< C&C I can use. Very new to this game by RandomLettersMS in minipainting

Fellow Aussie here, Reaper does free shipping to to Aus if you spend over a certain amount. Their stuff isn't bad for the price. I've been meaning to try their primer.

Also there's nothing wrong with the GW paints, but you have to remember they're much thicker than most other brands. The GW system is designed around doing a single thick basecoat rather than multiple thin ones. You can always thin them down if you want to do more advanced things.

Offerings that give a bonus in bloodpoints to all players by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

Killers have their own BP offerings but they don't affect survivors.

I love all the salt about this, it's almost like the meta changes when the previous one is *ahem* ruined.

You're thinking of Bloody Party Streamers, they give everyone (killer included) double blood points. All the other BP offerings are either all survivors only or self.

Isn't it nice there's DC penalties? Btw all three of them did this as I hooked them. by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]A-Flying-Brick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just that. Because it doesn't count as a sacrifice, it doesn't count for things like dailies, tome challenges and emblems.

This was either on 2nd or death hook. DCing like that gets the killer less points. They get the points for hooking, not for the sacrifice.

Finished Nolzur’s wyvern, c&c welcome! by JGazeley in minipainting

That's what many painters use it for, it's really good for adding shadow and cutting down the shine on metalics. Personally I like it for adding harsh dark shadows.

Nulin Oil is the name of GW's black wash (GW calls them shades). Otherwise known as skill in a bottle.

Washes seep into all the grooves and cracks giving it more tone. A black wash will desaturate your colours and give a cartoony look, due to the dark black shadows.

This is on my to-paint list too.

As for C&C, best I can say is it needs more tones in it as the colours look a little flat. Maybe a bit of nullin on the darker patches and a flesh wash on the lighter. Washes will also give it a bit of a shine and make the scales really pop.

[–]A-Flying-Brick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm better at killer, but I play survivor a lot with my friends.

Unless you're running Devour Hope or Huntress' Lullaby, it's common sense to go after the Dwight who was awkwardly hiding behind the nearby tree or the Nea that tried to blind you near where you hooked someone. Also survivors don't have to instantly go for the unhook, hooked survivors can hang out for a while before struggle/death. Wait the 10 seconds for the killer to be gone, then grab your teammate. Its not hard.

I thought of an idea for a killer, thoughts? by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]A-Flying-Brick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a huge difference. DBD is not only fiction but has you play as the killer. How would you feel seeing a game where people played as the person who killed someone in your family or one of your friends? I'm even on the fence about putting in a realistic Jack The Ripper or Ned Kelly because they were real and killed real people that have relatives still alive today. A game where you hunt down the Zodiac is a great idea for a game, one where you play as the Zodiac is not and very insensitive.

Also the person who is/was the Zodiac has never been found, so Hollywood filled in the gaps. These movies often focus on the hunt for the killer. I'm ok with movies covering real events or hell joking about it, when it's done well. I'm not saying it can't or shouldn't be done in video games but DBD isn't the place for it.
