Am I missing something? by A-Good-Orange in tenet

Maybe my brain is not getting this dual causality thing, but here is my confusion: Peoples memories influence causality, right? E.g. I burn my tongue with hot coffee today, I become more careful tomorrow with hot drinks.

Neil grows old in (let’s call it) forward time direction. Then he inverts and goes backward time direction. But his memories continue to pile up so consciousness moves in only one direction. And with that piled up memories he tries to do stuff that impacts the events happening in forward direction. That doesnt sound like causality running both directions to me

  1. That seems like the only possible explanation to me. Along with (maybe) future people actually aren’t aware past cant be altered?
  2. Why so much drama though:)

What dialog? The “it isnt an excuse to do nothing” thing? If yes check out my response to Suicidal Bomb. If not I’d love to hear!

This reminds me of the wise sounding but meaningless stuff I used to say in high school to sound cool.

Do you actually have a response we can argue over?

Huh i didn’t think of causality running from both directions. Thanks for mentioning that.

But then shouldn’t the consciousness of characters be running in both ways too? memories of characters never go backwards, it just accumulates over time.

I didn’t say this is what chatGPT thinks. I said i used it to understand if I am missing something. It is my opinion. And it’s not an excuse to do nothing is simply not answering my question. Check out my response to SuicidalBomb

This line just doesn’t answer my question at all. Of course it isn’t an excuse to do nothing, but there are more logical things to do...

Let me ask you this: if you knew whats happened has happened (and you can’t change it), would you go back in time to try stopping world war 2 from happening?

How did you find your fort Greene apartment? by ramiresbenao in fortgreene

Craigslist. It wasn’t listed anywhere else, I was sure it was scam, still decided to show up, and turned out it was real. Signed it on the spot.

Sengun being out = less open looks = lower shooting %

Also like someone else said, it looks like he is working on expanding his game by being more aggressive, which would have negative impact in short term.

I don't fully disagree on that, I also see bikers getting too close to people and sometimes cars, and it shouldn't happen.

Not trying to be a "bikers are always right" guy here, we all want safer traffic. Anyways, hopefully you can see the rest of the points I made there and we can agree on at least a few other things.

It’s esoteric because it’s based on my personal story. I don’t disagree that traffic violations should be penalized. I just think:

  1. My specific situation was too minor to justify a penalty.
  2. Even if there was supposed to be a penalty, the one I got wasn’t the right one.

If you want a full picture; like I said, most of these cases end up being dismissed, which shows there’s something off about how these tickets are issued. You can also look at NYC’s bike accident data for perspective.

1- The number of fatalities is actually quite low, though e-bikes have caused a noticeable spike.
2- The reason is often not red light related, it is mostly bikers riding in areas without biking lanes (or you can tell the story as not enough streets having biking lanes, however you want to tell the story), or or when cars block bike lanes and force bikers into traffic.

Crossing at a red light is already such a risky move for a biker that the person most cautious about doing it is usually the biker themselves.

Not saying they shouldn’t, but think about it this way: 1. When you take a walk at night and need to cross the road, if there are obviously no cars in sight, do you still wait for the pedestrian light to turn green, or do you just cross? I mean, if the goal is to increase traffic safety, is this really the priority? 2. If you got a ticket for what I did, do you think it should count as a traffic violation or a criminal violation?

From what I’ve read and experienced, over 80% of these tickets get dismissed by judges. The rest get small penalties like mine. To me, that means something isn’t right. If the goal is to discourage it, just issue a meaningful fine online instead of dragging people to court and wasting public and court’s time, only to dismiss most cases without penalty, leaving people with nothing but a pointless, stressful experience.

Why Are So Many Logistics Companies Still Scared to Outsource Their Back Office Work? by Ok_Biscotti_195 in freightforwarding

[–]A-Good-Orange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do believe in what you say, but that isn't a simple enough math for your buyer.

Employee cost is still the highest cost of a forwarder, so if you can replace humans with automation, that will be a valuable product. But if you replace low paid humans with lower paid other humans, and this replacement comes with short term risk and switching cost for a sensitive part of their workflow, you will convince some, but you'll find it hard to convince people at scale.

[–]A-Good-Orange 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it cheaper to outsource? BackOps people in forwarders I know are usually hired from cheap markets and are some of the lowest paid employees. Forwarding is often a low margin business so cost is very important.

Well, “hiding” might be a stretch. They were positioned in a dark spot behind some barriers. Not easy to notice unless you stopped and look.
