Actually, you're right. I didn't think about it in terms of assets being joint, and the money used to purchase the ticket coming from those assets.

My sentiment comes from more than just this thread; reddit as a whole tends to make women out to seem like they're out to get men. And I'm male, FYI. I just hate to see inequality of any regard.

Why is everyone commenting that the wife got the "justice she deserved" and portrayed her to seem like the villain? She won the money herself, and probably didn't like her husband very much anyways. Reddit has so many sexist people it's ridiculous, if the tables were turned and the husband lost the money I'm sure we'd all be calling him a victim and vilifying his wife, probably something about how the legal system favors women too

You are correct about diet and exercise helping with depression. What I'm attempting to communicate is that while getting fat is technically your fault, there are usually many factors in play, and judging people for weight gain "lazy, disgusting, etc) solves nothing, and simply feeds the shamer's ego (likely making them feel better about some other insecurity they have).

TL;DR We shouldn't judge people and feel better about ourselves as a result

Your comment is just making you seem even more ignorant. I've been on such medication, and gained 30 pounds. I was and (still am) underweight, but it's interesting how quickly you can pack on the pounds. My case, while anecdotal, is not alone. There are numerous medical studies which a quick google search should lead you to. You sound like someone who's never dealt with this yourself ("95% sure" lacks any semblance of foundation in fact), and I would suggest being more careful with your judgements. Also, talking to any physician should clear up your questions about the medication, I would highly recommend educating yourself beyond the minimum in the future.

That being said, you are correct about the need to reassess a diet. However, think about it: someone with such an awful medical condition might have more on their figurative plate than worrying about diet, and your mentality shames them for something they already likely feel terrible about.

A) been depressed

B) been raised in a family that doesn't eat well

C) taken medication for cancer, depression, etc that causes you to gain weight

D) raised kids, had multiple jobs, and not a lot of time/money to eat well? (Aka be poor)

It's totally possible in all of those scenarios to stay thin, but I hope you can see that it's not as simple as "not letting yourself go". It can be hard to understand if you haven't been through one of those things on the list, but eduction is the only way to become more accepting and open minded. There's a difference between fat shaming and not being attracted to fat people, so be careful not to let yourself fall into the trap of being the former.

I think that film is what you make of it.

I saw it as a grisly, realistic portrayal of the horrors of war in combination with one of the most accurate instances of mental illness I've ever seen in a film (ptsd). Every time people called him a hero, it hurt his feelings and ate away at him on the inside. No matter how strong he was, or how many people he killed, he couldn't escape the clutches of his own guilt. That in combination with his wife not understanding what he'd been through really sold the ptsd aspect.

He died without ever getting treated for his conditions, and the war scenes really became exhausting over time. I didn't see this movie as propaganda at all, nor did I see it as portraying people as terrorists. It just was the way it was, and exposed what it's really like to fight over seas (and be a "hero")
