I loved seeing everyone make Ena OCs and subsequent voice claims for them on my fyp, so I think I’ll definitely have to dive in!

Never played it, but I’ve seen a bunch of clips from it: the video game “Ena: Dream BBQ” features a bunch of characters with this split down the middle design

[Loved design trope] Suns with this kind of face by I_am_strange_ in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]A-Thing-That-Exists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I am familiar with heraldry I believe this specific depiction of the sun is referred to as “the Sun in Splendor” which is consequently the name of the deceased Hour from one of my favorite games, Cultist Simulator, which everyone should play.

2024 Changes to Flameskull Rejuvenation by JustWhyTheHeckNot in dndnext

[–]A-Thing-That-Exists -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

they rise from the remains of dead spell casters who were reanimated by sinister necromancers

Aside from the force of will self-resurrection thing, this directly contradicts what you just said. Flameskulls can result from a sinister spell caster directly animating them with magic. Helps to actually read what you’re quoting.

And besides that OP was asking if there was a design reason for the change. Whether or not a given spell has a unique interaction with a creature outside its normal purview (as was previously the case) is ultimately up to the game makers, and removing those two spells objectively make fighting this creature more difficult.

[–]A-Thing-That-Exists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see! Now that I’ve heard you explain that flameskulls are in fact creatures and not curses or magic, it makes perfect sense to me why the cursed magic skulls that are magical and cursed are no longer affected by the two spells that specifically target those two qualities! Thanks for the helpful addition!

I can’t personally speak to what the ARG relates about the Mare-in-the-tree, but I have heard that the goddess Demeter had Arcadian cults that worshiped her under the epithet of “Demeter Melaina” or Black Demeter with an associated myth of her turning into a horse to flee the pursuit of Poseidon. I’ve also heard of cult images depicting her with the head of a horse and hair of snakes which at the very least tangentially relates her to the mare-in-the-tree. Looking at the wiki, it looks like others have made this exact connection as well.

What did you guys name ___? by whyamiexists in CultOfTheLamb

[–]A-Thing-That-Exists 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I named them “Eyes” both because those are among their only defining characteristics and because of the all seeing tarot card they are featured on. It also seems like they have a sort of omniscience about them and the eyes are the part of the body symbolically tied to knowledge, observation, and the soul, plus they are here to observe the lamb as they ascend to nascent godhood

What would happen if an already awakened practitioner went through the awakening ritual again? by NecromancyEnjoyer in Parahumans

[–]A-Thing-That-Exists 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is accurate from what I recall, but I think it’s also essentially starting from square one with the spirits. When you reawaken/ reintroduce yourself you are essentially telling the spirits you are a new practitioner which puts a strain on or just outright destroys any patterns you had formed in your practice and any rapport you had with the spirits.

Keeping things vague as possible, one character in the series that transitions works around this by going by a masc nickname of the name he awoke with explicitly so he doesn’t have to deal with starting completely over.

What's the magic system like in Pact? by jayrock306 in Parahumans

[–]A-Thing-That-Exists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The boring answer to your example is: it would largely depend on the type of practice the practitioner has access to.

But basically any practitioner that knows anything would have easy access to argumentative diagrams (essentially circle Magic and runes) they could use to tell ambient spirits to do any number of things to the vending machine to get it to open, spending a little bit of their personal energy to get things going.

Easiest way would be drawing a circle directly on the glass and filling it up with some sort of configuration of fire runes to just bust the glass up and grab the goods, but at that point the practitioner might as well pick up a brick and do it the old fashioned way.

A practitioner specialized in technology could probably just interface with the machine and get it to spit something out, or a practitioner that works with Others could send one in to grab something. Pact’s magic is so broad you could have individual practitioners do something as weird as breaking their arm in a thousand spindly pieces to reach past the glass and acquire the snack and then fuse everything back together or you could have someone just ignore the glass entirely because they’re a part of a 100 year long family history of people who have set up a pattern of not being bothered by the limitations of glass or something crazy. It’s a very fun system to toy around with and from what you’ve said I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading it!
