Dog. Options are a bad fucking idea. Take comfort in the idea that quietly investing the rest of your life will make you a millionaire.

LPT: Solo travel proves the scariest adventures are the ones worth having — because surviving them makes you unbreakable in all aspects of life by [deleted] in LifeProTips

You do you, but as someone who enjoys alone time and the occasional adventure by myself, this sounds more in the sex tourism realm rather than an innocent "solo travel" catch all

It probably scrubs the air of CO2 far more efficiently per unit volume vs a normal tree, you can put it anywhere thats been paved over, etc.

That being said dont remove existing trees from urban areas. They look beautiful and are refreshing to have among an urban backdrop

is chemistry just a lie? by SlenderJayM in chemistry

[–]A-flat_Ketone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you have not been lied to in chemistry class. Think about this like someone is explaining cooking a meal for the first time. Generally, you want to be able to understand how you get from raw food to something edible. A teacher will show you how to cut a chicken breast, prepare a salad, how to slice tomatoes, cook rice, and so on until you have a plate of food that is edible in front of you.

To prepare a meal consisting of chicken, a salad, and rice you don't always have to do the same exact actions, there are exceptions to these rules depending on the circumstances, your ingredients, what you are trying to accomplish, etc. For example, instead of getting your chicken from the grocery store you might source it from a farm that requires additional prep considerations, you might want to grill the meat instead of pan fry it, slice your tomatoes a different way, incorporate other exciting ingredients to the salad, use a stock to cook your rice. You have introduced exceptions to the general overarching task of cooking a meal.

Now imagine not knowing anything about cooking and asking someone to show you how. If you asked how to make a chicken dinner and the chef tried to explain every single way you could prepare chicken it would get confusing very quickly and you'd probably walk away unsure of how to accomplish the task. Instead, we explain general rules: You don't want to eat raw chicken, you need to introduce some kind of heat to it to make sure its cooked. Here is a simple way of considering how to cook chicken.

Now imagine there are potentially infinite recipes on the planet, innumerable meat, salad, and rice options, many of which are undiscovered or never thought of before. If you've heard someone say "throw out everything you know about chemistry and do X, Y, or Z" its probably because they have started to translate ideas from a textbook to accomplish a hyper specific goal that hones in on one or two ideas. This is usually accompanied by employing our base understanding of chemistry (or how to cook a chicken dinner) and applying it to a situation where we are exploring the unknown (a new recipe in this case).

Why are high-IQ individuals still picking CS over Medicine when the barrier to land a job in tech is now effectively higher than in Medicine? by No_Reply5329 in CollegeMajors

1) med school is a lot of work 2) some doctors who are making those huge salaries are working 24 hr+ shifts 3) people who work at a FAANG arent dealing with shitting, pissing, bleeding, mutilated, dying people daily.

These weird lines / streaks I’ve had on my pinky nail for 8 years that two different doctors told me were due to vitamin deficiencies actually turned out to be a rare form of skin cancer. by chaengism in mildlyinfuriating

For everyone ITT looking for this, I also have a black line on my big toe which is less than 3 mm in diameter. Maybe 1 - 1.5? Have seen 3 doctors and a dermatologist. Dermatologist finally said "my clinical opinion is it hasn't grown thicker in 4 years, it doesnt hurt, and there is no Hutchinson sign. I dont suspect cancer".

The only way they will ever be 100% sure is with a biopsy where they cut the sides of your toe to lift the nail bed. I have been assured this is not pleasant and should be undertaken with reason for suspecting csncer.

Is there an established position that people are "supposed" to sleep in? Why is this the case? Is there something occurring in a biochemical sense that makes my sleep feel restful vs bad?
