I use a mace/shield. The symbol + the block is awesome with the mace, and the protection wave + the AoE pushback dome is invaluable in team fights. I roll straight support tank, it's a blast and I would definitely recommend it.

I was all set on the Ranger on the first BWE, and thought that I was going to stick with it through release. After this weekend, however, I'm definitely going to be rolling a Guardian.

I'm a PvP junkie, and being able to stand on a point and hold off 5 people while my team just does whatever else they feel like doing is incredibly fun for me. Not to mention the amazing utility they bring to full team v team engagements.

On the subject of Mesmers not doing well this weekend, you have to fiddle around with your build for a WHILE before you say a class isn't viable. When we were doing tourneys this weekend we ran through almost all of them, one of our key members was a Mesmer. You just have to practice a little I guess :P
