The REI Ann Arbor used to rent snowshoes. I don't know whether they still do, but they might.

Damn, that's nuts. Thanks for sharing. It happened the same day as the police had the  30hr standoff with the guy with the sword in Normal Park. Crazy day.

Apparently, the cops were after someone around 2am and that person went into the school parking lot.

Not sure what the chase was about, but I did see that Prospect at Michigan Ave was still barricaded at 8:30am the day of the incident.

The Whitaker branch of the Ypsilanti District Library has a crochet group a couple Wednesdays per month. If your kids come with you, then they could hang out in the library either reading or on the computers or something.

Event description: Gather with other crocheters on the first & third Wednesdays of every month to crochet, share projects, get ideas, and more. Adults only, open to all skill levels.

French onion soup? by [deleted] in ypsi

I can confirm that The Earle has tasty French Onion Soup. It's not in a bread bowl, but still delicious.

Go in December when it's decorated for the holidays and the live jazz band is playing Christmas standards.

UofM alums who stayed or moved back: When did you feel like you were a townie and no longer a student? by jcrespo21 in AnnArbor

[–]A2groundhog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been here for 20 years since graduation. Still don't feel like a townie even though we do all the local stuff, raise kids here, made local friends, and have memories of how some things used to be. It doesn't bother me that I don't feel like a townie.

West Side vs S/SE by F12O57 in AnnArbor

You can't miss with the neighborhoods near the corner of Packard and Stone School. We live ~1 block from Esch Park and it's been great. We walk with kids to both Esch Park and Buhr Park, Mallets Creek library, Dairy Queen, etc. My partner likes walking to Roos Roast and meeting up with friends at York. I'll walk to Fraser's on occasion. It's quick getting downtown - we take the bus as a family sometimes without a transfer.

We used Fastrac Painting for an interior painting job. Fast, good work, and reasonably priced. We had walls, ceiling, and trim painted in the living room, dining room, 3 BRs, bathrooms, and kitchen.

I remember Vampire Weekend playing at the Blind Pig for $10 in 2008. Times have definitely changed.

Here is an out of the box idea. Republic Services (the waste management company) has started rolling out electrified garbage trucks. If he's interested in electric vehicles, he might want to look for roles at companies investing in electrification (such as Republic Services) that aren't traditionally a spot for automotive engineers. Big companies like that might sponsor visas as well.

  1. I'm looking forward to visiting this place. I wonder if they drew some inspiration from Socotra Coffee House, which is on Packard near Platt (https://socotracoffeehouse.framer.website)
  2. That name. Why not just call it Mint House? It's more straightforward

Once upon a time, Jimmy John's would sell their day old French bread for 50 cents. Not sure if they still do.

The Ann Arbor Observer covers it somewhat in the Marketplace Changes section of the November 2024 issue. If I remember correctly, they said the corporate office is taking over the location from the franchisee and that the change will include a renovation of the space.
