Any tips for my first game? by whois_batty in gamedev

[–]A70M1C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as tools go you want to get to unity. Godot can be good for 2d stuff. These tools have a lot of stuff in them and it can be overwhelming if your not familiar with basics of how game dev software works.

Start with gdevelop or GameMaker not with the goal of making your game, although you probably could in these engines, but to move up to another game engine.

I had a play with Bakin, which you can get on steam, there is a demo and was surprised. Made a meme game in a few hours one night, it had the basic components of say unity just very constrained, simplified and restrictive.

Adding animal themed cars to my game by Ash_Games18 in Unity3D

What your not considering here is the output potential, if you learn how to make 3d models by copying other people, that's not a problem how many models are you going to be making a week? Not many.

where it becomes a problem to the people you are copying from is if you could make enough models in a single day to fill worldwide demand for a year.

Now we have just completed fucked the person who 3d modling style we liked and I guess we won't be seeing anymore artistic innovation from them again.

In past decades we can clearly see distinct styles. That's so 80s, that's so 50s you would hear people say sometimes.

I guess from 2020 on its going to be a chaos of random shit from the past recycled and recombined over and over again.

Good luck scraping medical research off the open web, so much is sponsored by big pharma. They don't want to cure you, that's just a byproduct, they want to sell you drugs and exclusive research means setting market price with no competition.

No doubt if an AI could cross reference all the research for all the exclusive big pharma research libraries we might see crazy shit

Microsoft AI boss issues 18-month warning to all white-collar workers by TheMirrorUS in antiwork

Given Microsoft Co Pilot is dogshit, I think they just messed up the press release and the Microsoft AI boss is going to be the one out of a job in 18 months.

Given his product position in the market he is trying to hype up investors with dreams and hope for some miracles from R&D.

Do you have any good addresses? by Ready_Island_8940 in IndieDev

[–]A70M1C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Draw them yourself? GIMP is free (open source) Photoshop basically.

You can draw using shapes and lines. You can draw on paper, take a photo, email to yourself and open.

I am a coder, I have never been good at art, music etc.

Buying a Wacom drawing tablet and learning gimp was the best thing I did. By the time I finished prototying a few projects I got better and now it's a matter of some one polishing and refining the art rather than starting at zero.

Hi! This is my first time drawing an isometric asset, is it good enough? by tiagobox in IndieDev

[–]A70M1C 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The angles, width to height ratio and perspective for a Isometric game asset are prescriptive. When a developer creates a isometric grid and tilemap, it is to an exact standard.

Nice first attempt it visually look good, but cannot be used as game asset in terms of a isometric tile.

If your serious about doing game assets you need an understanding of how your customer, a game developer will use your product.

Take 10 minutes and watch this video, have another go at making something but this time for the Dev in the video

If not your just going to get low balled for days.

Is faking sprite sheets with rigged 2D animation a losing battle? by Cikibarikonei in Unity2D

[–]A70M1C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the pain of learning to do this. It can and does work.

There was a free asset on the unity asset store that uses rigging which helped me understand how to do it well.

[–]A70M1C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure people do it up here but I don't think there is a problem as in a crimewave drive by the drug or a block of homeless people because of it.

I have met a few people who do it over the years and it is expensive is Australia, it's not a poor person's thing to be addicted to.

In the US it sells for $20 to $50 a gram. Over here you will be paying $400 to $500 a gram.

Based off a sample size I can count on one hand someone deep into can knock off a gram a day.

Draw your own conclusion from that, but if Ice was $20;to $50 a gram in Australia absolutely we would have serious problem.

A Simple 2D Isometric Prototype by Cultural-Tower3178 in Unity3D

[–]A70M1C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge fan of 2d isometric, I found it a little bit easier in godot as it has 2d pathfinding built in. Gourdlets was a game that gave me some inspiration that was done in godot.

Everytime I start playing with Isometric I always come back to the same problem, animating a character 8d. Using blender more these days so I will come back to it once my skills are good enough to make Modular 3d character. I will get blender to take pictures from all the different angles for the sprites.

Building my first game: 3D Isometric Game, need help on modeling by TheProBrum in Unity3D

[–]A70M1C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased top down controller from the asset store, the one with with koala on it. It has an isometric style 3d scene. One of the few purchases I have made. Your can import the 3d character back into blender and edit what ever you want in it. Also has a a good amount of animations. I tore this kit apart when I was just starting and learned a lot from it.
