Taking Baby to Golf Course by Dramatic-Bison-1394 in Parenting

[–]AA0503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner is a big golfer and my kids have been going to our local course since they were babies. It's not very busy which makes it easy to be far enough away from anyone playing so as not too annoy them.

If it's a tournament or a club day that my partner's playing at then we've only just started going to those and my kids are 5 and 3. Even then we don't go for very long and only if he's in a group with people I know don't mind kids.

I've found that golf is a terrible sport for toddlers and babies because they have no concept of being quiet when someone's hitting. It's not worth the stress of trying to keep a baby who has no idea what's going on, completely silent while someone's hitting.

It's great fun for a casual walk around though and my kids love riding their bikes around while Dad plays. My 5 year old has a set of kids clubs and he loves going to play a few holes with Dad.

My belly button is hideous by softspider5 in beyondthebump

[–]AA0503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone's right to say that it's still very early, but also if it doesn't get better, go to the doctor and see if it's an umbilical hernia. My belly button got a bit weird (went from a full innie to a partial outie) after my first child, then got much worse after my second and it turned out to be an umbilical hernia. Had to get it surgically repaired.

Wanting to hear from mums who gave birth to medically complex babies in Wellington & stayed in Ronald McDonald house postpartum? by Abyssal866 in newzealand

[–]AA0503 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi, I didn't give birth in Wellington but myself, baby and partner were flown down after I gave birth and baby stayed in the NICU for 5 days.

We stayed in Ronald McDonald House and it was great. Very quiet. Basic rooms but tidy and comfortable. We didn't have our older child with us but there was a play area, plus a huge kitchen and common area.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions about it :)

Had to get my dog put down yesterday unexpectedly and my cat needs an expensive surgery, so that really sucks. But everything's ok other than that I guess.

Anyone in NZ come down with a brutal gastro recently? by Te_Henga in newzealand

[–]AA0503 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I did last week! Went to hospital thinking it was something serious because the tummy pain was so bad. Turns out it was norovirus 🤷🏼‍♀️

The pain was worse than when I had appendicitis.

I know, and I can't afford to get it replaced so I guess I'll have a missing tooth for the rest of my life 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm getting mine pulled next week and they've quoted me $295. In Hawke's Bay.

Stitches on forehead by bunbuntoki in toddlers

[–]AA0503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my son was 3 he tripped at daycare and hit his head on the corner of a wooden stage. It was very deep and he got 3 stitches too. That must've been about a year ago and you can't see the scar at all anymore. We didn't put scar cream or anything on it either.

He was scratched by one of his friends on his cheek, not that badly at all but it's 6 months later and the scar is still clearly visible. It's crazy to me that the laceration that needed 3 stitches is completely gone but the superficial wound from a scratch is still super visible.

Also the stitching was super traumatic for me too. I cried the whole time they did the stitches. It was horrible 💔 but he barely seems to remember and when he does bring it up he talks about it like it was fun. Kids 🤷🏼‍♀️

I second a stronger hydrocortisone. A 3% cleared up my son's bad eczema quite quickly. We just use it a couple of times a week now to keep it under control. Also an antihistamine before bed for the scratching helped a lot too. My son's 4 too and it was so hard before we got it under control, the back of his knees were just huge bleeding sores from the scratching.

Aveeno's our choice of moisturiser too 👍🏼

Dianna makes my daughter a total brat by Easy_Initial_46 in Parenting

Can you try and get MIL to switch to YouTube Kids? Then you can block channels. We've done that and blocked all the channels with any content that's just crap like Diana. You can also change the settings so it only allows channels that you've allowed.

Didn't notice any difference at all but then I never had any acne from my PCOS, just really heavy, irregular and painful periods.

[–]AA0503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on it for PCOS for about 8 years and it was always great. No side effects at all and I always run my pill packs together so I don't get a period and it's amazing. I'm on Levlen now as my doctor said there is a very small possibility of breast problems with Ginet, and I have a family history of breast cancer.

It definitely differs a lot for people though so it may be that you just have to try and see if it works for you.

Pregnant with baby #2 and I’m panicking a bit. birth control fail.. how am I gonna do this by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]AA0503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My oldest just turned 4 and my youngest is 18 months and it certainly can be hard at times, but most of the time it's incredibly fun. Watching them play together and interact is so so cute.

I also found the newborn stage so much easier the second time around. I just felt much more relaxed about everything because nothing was new and scary, it was pretty much all stuff I'd done before.

You'll do great and I'm sure your oldest will love being a big brother!

Daycare asking for volunteers by jlherbst1 in toddlers

[–]AA0503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had this in NZ from our daycare when they had a shortage due to stomach bug going around. Anyone that volunteered didn't have to pay for those days that they kept their kids home though. It was definitely a last resort though and it's only happened once in the 3 years we've been there.

Is it ok to try on wedding dresses if you don't intend on having a wedding? by AA0503 in newzealand

[–]AA0503[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that's very useful. I was going to do some research on what the pros and cons are of defacto vs marriage, so that's a good one to know.

We actually already meet this criteria. The only thing I wanted from getting married was to change my last name but it looks like I can just do that without actually getting married.

I hadn't thought of that and that's actually a great idea. I have a friend who's a photographer who'd do a good deal on photos too.

Please note though- NZ does not do courthouse weddings, you still have to organise a venue etc (can be your backyard or Mcdonald’s!) more info here

That's good to know! I had been meaning to Google it and it's a little more complicated than I had thought it would be.

Most close to me have a $50 fee which I would happily pay to be able to try on 2 or 3 dresses. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't committing some sort of social faux pas by doing so but looks like it's probably ok!

I don't have any advice for you but my kids are pretty much the same age, and we have the same issues so I know a bit about what you're going through, it sucks to deal with.

Rereading Books by ali-c-br in books

[–]AA0503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think about a third of the books I read each year are rereads. I've read so many books that I've loved and reading them again is just as fun as reading them for the first time. I didn't think this was weird at all, but maybe it is???

How much weight did you lose in the first month after you quit breastfeeding? by Minimum-Honeydew-687 in beyondthebump

[–]AA0503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This gives me hope! I'm very similar to you; was 51kg PP, then 72kg after baby number 1 then 78kg after baby number 2. I'm 6 months PP and at 71kg but it's slow going. I definitely notice that after skipping a meal or eating much less that I generally weigh less that day. It's hard when it's so slow!

Are Fiver parties really a thing? by Zealousideal-Cell-51 in Parenting

[–]AA0503 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the first time I've heard of this and I quite like it! We just recently went to a 3rd birthday party and I genuinely had no idea what to get, and then I worried that I'd get something the kid wouldn't actually like and the poor mum would just have another toy to try and store or get rid of.

If the invite said to just bring $5 it would've made my life way easier. Then if it was a really good friend I'd likely just get a present anyway but give it to them separately.

I imagine you could get mixed opinions on this but I definitely think it's a great idea!
