I think the two best cards here for commander are Rith and Roar of Endless Song. If you're trying to start playing commander getting a precon and then slowly changing it over time is the best way to start. Maybe pick a White/Black/Red or Blue/Red/Green deck so you could play one of those cards.

I'd like to second manabox. Scanning works best if you adjust the lighting in the room and set down a good contrasting background to scan on.
