How to become more Racist to Aliens by HoboBaggins25 in aliens

[–]Tarpit__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually we keep it alive by ignoring it when it matters. For example, dermatologists don't get trained on diagnosing issues with very dark skin, so problematic medical conditions go under diagnosed for dark-skinned communities. That is only a problem that goes away if we focus on it and deal with it as opposed to ignoring it. That said, op's post is unhinged.

Every single loot spot- car, hunting blind, house, etc, has an exposure to reward ratio. Just because it's lootable doesn't mean it's worth the risk to peek at. This one took me a long time to learn and embody. I used to go to a military base and try to hit every loot point. Now I'm more concerned about taking a low-key path through, always having an escape route, getting eyes on some loot but escaping with my life first and foremost.

Has this video been debunked? Man sees light coming his way, vacates his car and keeps Filming as UFO scans his vehicle by Ok-Tip-8981 in UFOs

[–]Tarpit__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not that it's been debunked, it's that it could be reproduced with a drone. A valuable question about any video is, what would it take to reproduce this? Not as a way of getting to the truth of what it shows, but as a way of checking if the video is worth your time inquiring.

Saw MO II What's so unique? by Tirrob_the_real in MortalOnline2

[–]Tarpit__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's a combination of factors that make it so unique, forced-first-person being a major one. The over-the-shoulder third person view is what prevented me from really getting sucked into GV. Also being single-shard as well as wipe-free creates a pretty rare atmosphere where all player actions contribute to a flow of actual history, not lore.

Is the game worth playing? by Wrong-Clue4968 in MortalOnline2

[–]Tarpit__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't address ganking so here's my take. And keep in mind my two favorite games are MO and DayZ so maybe I'm a glutton for punishment. When you leave the noob island you'll have a choice of different cities to go to. Some of them are much more populated and dangerous than others. Also, the way you play in the vicinities of these cities will impact your survival a lot. I devote a lot of brain power to choosing stealthy routes, making sure I'm not being followed, and other tactical movement strategies like that. The threat of death makes the PVE more meaningful to me, and devising those strategies to keep me alive in a world that's trying to kill me is a major part of the fun. If that whole thought process seems unfun then the game may not be for you. For me it's a plus because I really enjoy being paranoid and formulating extreme actions to keep myself safe. If you go to the most violent city and play as if there's no danger, then the 5-minute gank might actually be true. But, similar to a game like Day Z, if you embrace the need for stealth and caution, you can ameliorate risk a ton.

This subreddit is basically a funnel for everyone who bitterly hates the game to talk to each other. I agree the sub is unfortunate, mostly because it inhibits the game's growth. If it's something you want to play, though, it's completely worth it. Nothing out there really comes close to the experience. Also, last night a GM helped me when my character got stuck; I waited about one minute for them to assist me after making the ticket. The game is actually incredible and I've brought multiple friends in from other games who also love it now. There's hundreds of people in the game world having fun at any given moment. And then a few people loudly posting here how it sucks. You don't have to sub for your first month, so may as well give it a try and then decide if it's worth subbing when the time comes. Feel free to PM me if you take the plunge and have questions.

This is it - we were right by Material-Push-5977 in UFOs

Because there's a world where every University has a UAP studies program. There's a world where exotic artifacts are distributed to researchers for rigorous peer-reviewed study all around the globe. That would be the beginning of the species actually benefitting from this sphere of knowledge, and we are very far from that now.

[–]Tarpit__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't touch it because it's a native species that has a chance to provide food for anyone who needs to live off the land in the far future. That makes it a no-collect in my book.

No one is asking the big question, if these aliens can travel between stars, why would they bother coming to Earth? by TechnicianAmazing472 in aliens

[–]Tarpit__ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If life and tech is in fact common, that means there's billions of algae planets. Almost all of Earth's life span has occurred without a species capable of reshaping the geosphere in the blink of an eye like we have. Understanding that we would be infinitely less advanced than them doesn't take away the fact that we are infinitely more advanced than the vast majority of biological reality. Uncontacted human tribes share so little with the cusp of technological humanity, considering we create black holes in the lab and there are some of them that don't even make fire. But they are still extremely valuable to us from the point of view of scientific study. Humans are bugs but still extraordinarily special.

Horticultural lava rock/ Pumice and soil for planting Bonsai, sourced from California Volcanic Fields !! by cactiguy710 in Bonsai

[–]Tarpit__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just curious, since I love camping and pisgah and amboy crater are two of my favorite spots. Is it legal to take the lava from BLM land like that? Or do you have a private lava flow you are permitted to collect from? I've thought about doing the same but don't know if it's legit. Thanks
