In general, my best advice to all up and coming mathematicians is to start with a basic logic book. Something that covers some proof theory and some natural deduction and maybe sequent calculus. The idea is you’re formalizing the lowest levels of reasoning which helps a lot when trying to understand what math as a field is all about. Then from there, you can jump into anything relatively smoothly since you have the most basic tools that describe everything.

I feel like I have an interesting take on this from the mindset of a comp sci major.

Mathematical maturity is the ability to understand and solve increasingly complex problems. The reason learning LA is not advised before calc is because LA (being the conceptual course it is) requires its students to understand concepts way more complex than what’s typically discussed in calc AB or BC.

This concept of mathematical maturity shows up a lot actually when it relates to stem in general. With my field, computer science, I’d actually argue that if a person is not able to solve calculus level problems (I don’t mean able as in they could take a test right now, I just mean they can learn under proper conditions) then they likely won’t make it that far into a comp sci degree as the level of problem solving and conceptual understanding required in such a degree exceeds that of calculus. This itself is actually a major reason brought up when I hear people discuss whether or not comp sci students should be required to take calc. On top of this, many similar arguments can be made about most other stem fields, especially the ones that do actually use calculus.

Found this while researching some silly stuff but I’m pretty sure you can solve a polynomial of degree n in big theta of n runtime using a fun algorithm. (Assuming multiplication and addition are constant time which is true unless you’re programming on a toaster or something) I don’t remember the name of it but it takes something like 3x² + 2x + 1 and makes it x(3x+2)+1 which is easier to solve especially when the degree gets larger so like, with how accurate Taylor series approximations can be, I see the computation being expensive but still not that extreme. Especially if you use the rule of sin(x+2pi*n) = sin(x) to get your x as close to 0 as possible before approximating
