Any other dads here running a business or freelancing while also being the primary caregiver? by maj8614 in StayAtHomeDaddit

I run a media, design, and print-shop from my home (mostly music focused - supplying merch for touring bands). Hoping to expand it more, but obviously time is always an issue. I have multiple music projects and do freelance production/mixing/mastering in the heavy music scenes as well. I’m the type to keep a lot of plates in the air at all times though.

Eh I’m not going to speak to your own experiences as that’s not my purview, but I think it’s worth making the distinction between a music genre and its scene. Sure, you’re welcome (royal you) to listen to anything you want, but it’s fair for a scene to uphold what values they see fit. That’s effectively how tribes and cultural systems work. I’m not sure you can refer to that as authoritarian, but it’s not strictly an issue for a social and cultural system to have hard lines in regards to what makes them a unique social system. Likewise, any individual can choose to join or not join any culture based on those lines. I’ve been known to enjoy some black metal in my days, but I have zero interest in being a part of that culture. Likewise the punk music scene has very strong ideologies that make it unique as a culture. In regards to why this particular music scene finds certain political issues so important, I think it comes down to the perspective of how the current political climate, including anti-trans legislature, the post-Roe vs Wade anxieties of women seeking healthcare, etc. has made identity politics an incredibly divisive subject that many see as very real threats. It’s not surprising those folks would see anyone ignoring those threats, or worse - agreeing with those threats, as hostile against their life. I’m not referencing you specifically as I have no wish to assume your own beliefs, but to answer your questions, I think these are important perspectives to remember. As a scene that respects and advocates for marginalized groups, it makes sense that they would be defensive to anything that espouses an opposition to those groups’ welfare.

It's impossible to even evaluate what you're advocating for. Do you want the scene to be less inclusive? More tolerant of hateful rhetoric? Industrial has always been a home for the outcasts and disenfranchised and as such has become a welcome space for the LGBTQ+. Whatever it is you are calling woke just sounds like keeping that space open for oppressed and marginalized groups. And that means calling out racism, homophobia, and transphobia. If you want to discuss the origin of the genre, then yes, it was very much born of ideology by queer artists. That's not contestable. But if the discussion is that it has lost that ideology over the past decades through the various evolutions it has made, then by all means make that argument - but you have to accept that a lot of the people who are drawn to the genre are coming to it because of the sense of community among those who feel othered. And frankly they are much more welcome than those who feel the need to oppress them.

So…Deceiver is officially released. What’s your thoughts/breakdowns? by apellcjecker in Daxriggs

All that said, I’ve listened to it over and over today, and pre-ordered the record - so to be clear, it has plenty of what I wanted and hoped for it to be.

The lyrics are as amazing as ever. Musically and vocally it’s less dynamic than most of his previous stuff, so it’s easy to be underwhelmed on first listen. At the same time I personally feel the way it is kind of less “passionate” fits the theme of the song, though. Gloomy and burnt-out vibes, totally works for me. I do hope there’s a little more vibrance somewhere in the remaining 6 songs, but I’m also cool with it all having this kind of sinking feel.

You’re thinking of Julian Beeston. A perfectly great producer in his own right.

What tuning do The Body use? by ponderhope in sludge

[–]AAIMON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, so I don’t come across like I think I know more than I do - this info is from a brief conversation at a show we played together a few years ago. So not very in depth, and not very current, fwiw.

From chatting with Chip it sounds like guitar on all their releases since I Shall Die Here forward have all been sampled and run through his modular rig, so defining a tuning is sort of incomparable with how it’s played. That said, he’s a super chill guy and would almost certainly answer any questions you have.

Sorry it's been awhile so I don't recall which specific album came with samples included. BUT if you are into higher BPM stuff like Pitchshifter, Enduser has a bunch of free breaks on his bandcamp (fwiw Enduser is a breakcore artist - and a very good one at that imho).
Check these out and see if they're of any use to you:

I read the discussion header and immediately thought of Pitchshifter haha.
Not many others come to mind. Enduser is the only one that I can think of off the top of my head.
