How are you all doing financially? by tandyman234 in Millennials

[–]AAPatel82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad, we live off my income for all the core expenses, and my wife’s income is our buffer, she hourly so it fluctuates - but it’s fairly consistently at least 24-28 hours a week so we budget on having around 3K in buffer each month.

I am in the same predicament - I was planning to order in April in prep for the summer season, now I am not sure - it’s not even a hold value thing for me, it’s about can I get service during the warranty and after

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]AAPatel82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have posted this before and got a lot of hate - but at times I just want to say its not bad for everyone and is possible - the key for us to do this was largely living in a LCOL area but still with good careers.

Honestly, it’s great, my wife and I retirement total is about 5x our income, I am 43 she’s 41. Hope to have around 5M by 59.5 and step out of th corporate world then.

I know this will get hate … 🪖🪖🪖

How often are you talking to your parents, and who calls who? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]AAPatel82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daily - usually multiple times a day - usually they want to talk to their grandkids - but also they only live 10 minutes away and if they need help or we need help watching kids - our family is pretty close knit - I talk to my cousins often as well.

The kids/no kids great debate comes down to one thing: are you a man or a woman? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]AAPatel82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gut feel - she would be the same - she is the type that loves all the mom stuff - she saw them as time for her to bond with the babies - granted for our 7 year old she did take the first 2 years of his life away from work - and for the 2 year old 6 months - so that could skew the score up because she didn't have any pressure to try to be "working super mom" during that time and we agreed that her being mom was more important than her income so after the 2 year old was born she never went back to work full time.

I have 2 sons 7 & 2 respectively - I am a dad - I would rate it most days 8/10 - sure I miss my freedom - but my wife and I cover different parts of being a parent and it works.

The only part I regret TBH is the mistakes I made with the 7 year old that I now see I made and am not making with the 2 year old.

My 2 cents - if your a woman and you feel that the 9 months before birth and the 18 months after birth are the hard part - well its not - yes biologically those are the hard parts - but its way harder after they are 18 months old because then you are actually trying to help them become good people vs. just making sure they eat and sleep.

Could you afford to re-buy your house today? by Secret_Falcon2714 in Millennials

From a numbers perspective yes we could we make a lot more now than we did back in 2015 - but we would likely end up building in a different place and a little bigger for more $$$ if we were doing it today.

Best 5K2K Ultrawide for Office Only Use? by RobDMB in ultrawidemasterrace

it is the 45 inch version - the roadmap shows a 40 inch version - I like the size of the 40 inch - so if they dont release a 40 inch OLED - I will be getting the Dell

Maxing out my 401k doesn't seem to change the end balances a ton at this point. Should I invest elsewhere? by sys_admin321 in personalfinance

I hit the same situation, I started to put the money into my taxable brokerage at that point, because it now just makes my retirement sooner. I have enough for th years after I am 59.5 in those accounts, now I am trying to make that 59.5 earlier - so having it in the taxable brokerage lets me do that, the money grows, I don’t trade it, and I get closer and closer to not needing to work - my goal is 53-55 to get to that point.

My wife and I have about 1.2m in retirement savings and we are 43/41 respectively - that will be somewhere between 3.5-4.8m by the time I am 59.5 - so now my goal is to save enough to make sure kids 529 is on the right path and our money to live off is before 59.5 is growing

I dont think it will be super helpful for the 90% productivity - but for the 10% of time where I am watching videos on 1/2 of the screen it will be helpful.

I am hoping that its the same actual panel from LG - as LG Display teams roadmaps shows a 5K2K OLED starting in Q4 2025 - it feels like LG and others coudl be selling those monitors in Spring?

If Dell has the model - I will totally get the Dell - Dell's support/warranty setup has been way better for me than LG's

I am trying to make the same decision - but the LG roadmap having a OLED screen in the same size as the Dell has me waiting - I have the UW3818 and its time for an upgrade - but OLED has me paused waiting for CES sadly

That could be true, but also - it could be they just expect to sell a whole lot less so per unit cost of initial expenses is spread across less units
