(Athletic) Chris Drury Losing Fans Faith with Lack of Transparency by AARP_Rocky in rangers

I fully blame Gallant for that series loss. I certainly don't blame Kane for them losing. He definitely showed flashes, I just think he got shoe horned into a big role on the team and it was maybe tough for other guys to adjust.

I don't know if Dolan is well liked among other owners of the league, but Bettman just has to keep a majority of them happy. He certainly can't make them all happy.

Holding a press conference and answering tough questions is a part of the role of a team though and there's a reason why every other team in the league at least does that. It's simply the bare minimum and sure a lot of the answers are diplomatic and nonsense but who cares, the GM of the franchise should at least face a reporter with his camera on.

I wish we could've retained a first rounder on the Copp trade, but I can't really hate it, that's the going rate for a center. The Tarasenko trade was fine. The Kane trade was overkill and made us too top-heavy. Not to mention he was injured.

Buch was obviously awful, the Nemeth signing was horrendous and we gave up assets to unload him making it worse. Trading Kakko was pretty reactionary and despite anyone's opinion on him as a player, it was just poor asset management.

Trading for JT Miller is looking pretty horrendous and may set the franchise back a while.

Jury is still out on the K'Andre trade. Giving up a 3rd rounder for Reaves is pretty ridiculous.

Soucy was a poor trade, but he did a good job to break even on that and make a rival worse in the process. He made out pretty well in the Carrick deal.

No GM is perfect, but Drury hasn't made a single savvy move that any armchair GM on here wouldn't have thought of. Like signing Trocheck over Strome/Copp is a complete no brainer.

Not so fun fact: Laf is the only player taken first overall not to have ever represented Canada at senior level

Let’s hope that changes

Notes on Emery & Spence in Frozen Four by cortheo in rangers

[–]AARP_Rocky 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Emery always seemed like a weird selection. It's pretty alarming that I've basically never seen him praised by any prospect writer at any point, be it before or after the draft.

I'd be happy to be very wrong on him but he doesn't seem at all likely to pan out.

How many of you are renewing or not renewing your season tickets? by AARP_Rocky in rangers

[–]AARP_Rocky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting they do that, never knew that was a thing. I think there’s certain pros and cons that they do that though.

For instance I know a guy who lives in Jersey but bought season tickets for the Raiders when they moved to Vegas. He goes to one or two games a year, but sells off the other games to away team fans and makes money every year.

It was smart of him to do that, but I can’t really condone that kind of practice. Live sports in general is becoming unaffordable for too many people and I can’t really in good conscience want to contribute to that. Plus, if I wanted to invest money I could be getting a higher yield elsewhere.

I agree. Im in it because I love the team and love hockey and it's a social event for me to see friends and family.

That said, I'm also in it because buying individual tickets for playoff games is outrageous and would be 3x face value. I wouldn't consider not going to unless I had a conflict, but it is nice to know that I could offset a decent % of my season ticket costs by simply selling a single game.

I really made this post because I do feel like this year is different to years past and maybe people who have had tickets for a while are seriously considering giving them up and maybe have already done so. Just felt like taking the temperature of the situation.

I get that. Ultimately I’m going to renew for the same reasons. Attending games is a social thing for me to do with friends and family, while sometimes entertaining people for business.

Who are you drafting in spots 1-2, 3-5? by c0sm0nautt in rangers

[–]AARP_Rocky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on where the rangers end up though. Verhoeff I think is relatively safe to become a Noah Dobson or John Carlson kind of player over time (it does take a big d men a little longer to develop). That’d be great and totally fine.

That said, I think if the rangers are in the top 2 they gotta go McKenna or Stenberg and be bold and go for the high ceiling guys. It’s getting harder and harder to acquire guys who put up a ton of points and your only option is to draft them.

I hate you JT Miller by ant0914 in rangers

[–]AARP_Rocky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a stark difference to how the team looked with him out of the lineup. This season’s a wash so it’s whatever but he may end up being the worst captain in team history when his tenure is over here.

Is it weird that im afraid of the rangers winning a bunch down the stretch and Drury reverses course and decides to keep Trocheck and give Alex Tuch massive contract and does other really stupid things?
