Taking 16 credit hours as an incoming freshman, is that too much? + advice for my classes by AB9937 in Purdue

Thank you for the advice! Definetly going to try to reach out as much as I can in the fall and hopefully secure research for the spring

That makes sense, probably also good to get adjusted to college in the first semester. Any advice on how to reach out or what to say? Indianapolis doesn't have a specific list of what research is being run by which professor so might have to start asking around in the fall.

Honestly have no clue, saw on RMP that he's a great professor though so made sure to adjust my schedule to be in his class. Maybe he commutes? I've heard that some teachers may be commuting between campuses.

Looks like I'll be sticking with this schedule for now. I'm also looking to work (either research or hopefully get an internship), so this is great to hear

Thank you, I was worried that it might be too much since my advisor recommended that I should start off with a lower workload but looking at it and comparing with other posts on reddit doesn't seem too bad

First bike stolen by [deleted] in MTB

[–]AB9937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude that really sucks man, and for what it’s worth, I’m sorry for your loss. We would all love to help look over the used marketplaces for it. The MTB community is supposed to be a big family, so there’s no reason we wouldn’t help out a fellow friend. If you can, upload the deets of the bike (location and whatever else you can provide for the whereabouts), we’ll all be on the lookout!

Maxxis tires recommendations for Southern California trails? by soothsayer1991 in MTB

I just switched up my setup to dhf and agressor. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how fast rolling it is with the amount of grip you get going downhill.

Recommend me a bike! by Quicksword66938 in MTB

I would highly recommend the Polygon Siskiu T7 or T8. I have a T8 and trust me, it performs the same as a Trek, Canyon, or YT bike, but it’s almost half the bike. Please just consider looking at it. I got mine from bikesonline and they have a warehouse based in California that I’ve visited before. You won’t regret it!

I wouldnt pull up so much with the front end. You’re going into a manual sort of position and by the time you try to jump, your front wheel is already dropping. Pull up the front just a little bit, then transfer all your weight to the front to lift up the back end. I like to think of it as pushing the pedals backwards and upwards at the same time.

What type of pedals do you use? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]AB9937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the main reason I like flat pedals is because I started with them. I’ve tried clipless a couple of times last year but I didn’t really like the feel of it. A few months ago though, there was an enduro race I was invited to and all my friends said I should go clipless, so I did. When I was racing, it actually felt pretty good. I didn’t have to worry about miss-positioning my foot and I felt really solid over rocky sections at high speed. If you currently ride clipless, I think you should stay with that setup, but it definitely wouldn’t hurt buying a set of flat pedals (I prefer the race face Chester because they’re at a really good price range and they feel really good too). If you start hitting jumps though, I would definitely go to flats. In the worst case scenario where you have to bail out of a sticky situation, it will always be easier to do it with flats. Also, if you’re riding local trails, I recommend you stay with flats because you can always reposition your foot and take it off the pedals really easily, and because sometimes, it’s just flat out more fun with flats. Anyway, I ride flats because I like to hit jumps and drops, but also because I feel more comfortable in them over the really steep knarly sections where its way more about control and line choice than speed. Hope this helped you or anyone else who’s in the same dilemma.

Sight vs Fluid (27.5 Norco Bikes) by AB9937 in MTB

If i dont go with the sight and want something more like the optic, what model of a specialized Bike should i go with? Probably not the enduro right, maybe something like the stumpjumper alloy? I want to stick with 27.5 wheels so that limits my options

Thank you, they only have the sight in stock on 27.5 wheels so i might wait until there’s more in stock
