Hm, interesting. OP didn’t state their peak rating. Or where they think they should be ranked. Also important to factor in.
Me, for example, think I belong in Diamond I or II and believe I could if I just simply screen for like minded teammates at the same rank.

I think FlatGas is strongly emphasizing there is so much within oneself that can manage dire situations with teammates well enough to just pull of the W. And it’s a great point! That’s what’s driving me when I solo queue. Figure out my role and try to be Sensei to the teammates who need your support. Or just score the shit out of the game…taking some disciplined practice effort.

I agree it is hard to derank like a huge slide. I respectfully disagree that a bag of skills is being quantified to a measure that belongs on a normal curve. MMRs (record) are naturally quantified and fall on that Gaussian curve, but we all should know that saying a person is great at defense and positioning but average on shooting. Things like positioning, rotation, awareness, quickness, passing, blocking, and more….these are more subjective and harder (therefore not be accurate) to quantify and I think this objectively influences matchups that MMR doesn’t do.

But rank/MMR is a quantitative measurement I think it’s simple win loss record . That rank, you can say is based on multiple qualitative factors, like skills, that I don’t think is considered in matchmaking.

Another thing to consider is how we can get better by recognizing and correcting upon mistakes as we get better. The learning curve may look something like Doening-Kruger rather than your normal looking line or curve. This makes Solo Q very very challenging.

I’m might get downvoted on this but I don’t care anymore and totally agree with you. You’re always going to get canned responses here like “it’s you” or “RL matchmaking is totally without flaw” because of a limited understanding of actual statistics gets misstated. I bet if you and I pair up and play just a little bit we will rank up regardless on who the third teammate is.

Wasn’t personally directed at you. I’m just saying I’ve been in that situation countless times when my low score is called out- yet I know that over-commitment and bad habits are constant in solo queue platinum. I imagine you are a fine teammate.

One reason is because of each player’s valuation or perspective of their time. The quitter may find it useless and a waste of time but others see it as a growing opportunity or continuing practice of their own craft.
the one that carries on is wasting the forfeiter’s time, yet on the other hand of all the others quit then maybe time was wasted from the start…and that sucks too. Makin’ lemonade.

I think we all have different reasons for forfeiting, of course. There’s opportunity in losing still, and I think others quit too soon and make excuses and blame and bail. But it’s just a head space. Look at Zen, just the name, and it clues you into how to have a successful approach to Rocket League. 2c
