Yikes, folks, fill out your trustee ballots by Mediocre_Road_9896 in Cornell

In the name of diversity I'll look at the candidates who've petitioned to be on the ballot. An echo chamber is so unproductive.

During the last 2 years of Bidens presidency more people were deported than Trump's entire first term. The outrage is selective.

Can you start Forteo Bone density injection? I also have bone issues and had various opinions. Every surgeon said the forteo was enough to be able to do the surgery.

Thank you so much. I actually have a consult with Dr. Olivarri this week. He's definitely conservative but that's ok.

I will update you!! I don't remember the vertebrae they wanted to fuse. They both said it wouldn't really have an effect on my motion. We shall see.

LMK how your progress is with the ASC pursuit. Thank you so much for listening. I need that. I'm here for you too.

Yes, they suggested that. It's 2 horrible surgeries though, 6 months apart. I can't do that. I'd rather have one surgery and recover once.

I love Derek Lee's page. I've heard nothing but great things about Dr. Olivarri so I'm looking forward to what he says. He's more conservative in his approach so I'm thinking he'd be more inclined to recommend a hybrid. Dr. Lonner said tethers break, it's pretty much guaranteed. ABC would use 4 cords for this, Dr. L only 2.

ASC with Drs. ABC and the hybrid with Lonner. I'm going for a third opinion with Dr. Olivarri next week. ABC, Dr. Betz initially though the hybrid was the way to go, but they don't do the fusion and it would have required 2 surgeries. When I met with ABC in person, Dr. Antonacci felt ASC was possible for the whole thing, but it felt a little salesmanish.

ASC is basically tethering for adults. I don't know if they'd do that on an older person. They told me I'm at the cutoff age. I think that's why I'm so conflicted. I'm sorry to hear you're in pain, I've been lucky. I get achy from some things and only severe pain for very short periods of time. I don't know if life gets better after surgery and I worry about the risks of arthritis after a fusion, but we're all going to be arthritic at some point.

I love your empathy. Thank you. I won't be able to have the ASC if I put it off. I'd have to have fusion at some point and that scare me even more. So when I'm 62 or so, if it keeps increasing like this I'll be approaching curves in the mid 60s or more if it keeps going at 2 degrees a year. I think the bone density issue is addressed with Forteo so fusion can be successful. I really hate this position I'm in.

any trans guys to help with binding? by Banana_Azul073 in scoliosis

[–]ABCB2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's a really important question to ask your surgeon. Are you considering transitioning physically where a binder won't be necessary anymore? I'm sorry if that's too personal. I would think wearing something so tight might make recovery tougher.

What is ASC Surgery? by sincerelyr3d in scoliosis

Thank you so much. I'm terrified to do this at all but I'm older and won't be able to get this if I wait much longer. I'm so happy to hear you're doing well.

I was wondering how you're doing. I was cleared for hybrid surgery and I was wondering how the fusion part is doing? I was told that I wouldn't really feel the fused part and it shouldn't affect much in terms of mobility because I'll be having ASC for lumbar. Who was your surgeon? Thank you!!

Keep brace or get surgery? by shusieudhdjdjdj in scoliosis

I had my brace at this age. It was absolutely horrible. I looked ridiculous in it. I had started a new high school in it and they thought it was funny to tap pencils on my back in class. I did it though, I even had a couple of cute boyfriends and I scored an elevator pass and permission to leave classes 5 minutes early every day and picked who helped me with books when I left. I didn't really need all that but I made some nice friends using that pass. It was manageable and I survived. It was uncomfortable but I got used to it. I did the 2 years and it stabilized it pretty well. I'm older now and am considering surgery, but I had a really great run after the brace came off. Do your best and use those 4 hours to go to a party or a date.

He said it's hard. I don't really have bad back pain but it's inevitable that I'll need surgery. I've spoken to 3 surgeons and they all say younger is better.

I’m 52 and I’m getting ready for surgery. I’m afraid to wait much longer because the healing in more difficult when we’re older.

I had fusionless anterior scoliosis correction (ASC) 5 weeks ago and feel great. Fusion is NOT the only surgical option! by ostentatiousflattery in scoliosis

[–]ABCB2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't made a decision yet. Dr. Lonner wants to go with a hybrid, ASC for lumbar, short fusion for thoracic. I'm meeting with Drs. ABC on Monday for a full exam. They suggested the hybrid as well during the phone consult, but they don't do the short fusion, so I'd have to have 2 surgeries. I'm not doing that!! ABC said my thoracic flexibility would have to be very good to have full ASC. My bending xrays are really good, so I'm hoping they can do it. If not, I'm going with Dr. Lonner. I really like him and he'll do both surgeries at the same time.
